Looks a lot shinier, what did you use besides elbow grease?

I started with oven cleaner and had to use steel wool to get the good ol' 70's paint off. Washed it off with soap and water, then went over the area with rubbing compound to get rid of the swirl marks the wool left behind.

I have to thank Brad for the oven cleaner idea... MEK didn't even touch it.

Thanks for the info, i think i will be trying the oven cleaner today. Never would have thought of that.

What does it do, remove the letter or the oxidation on the gel coat?

The easy off oven cleaner is to remove the painted on numbers on gelcoat.

John - I can do any font you want...and it will definatly look cooler then the block letters at west marine.

Gonna be buggin you for a set too Brad. MEK really didn't work? I left a saturated rag on the linoleum floors here and it ate a hole right through the tile...
