Bimini Top install questions...
« on: June 22, 2010, 10:51:38 AM »
Looking at an Overtons Bimini for my Tahiti, since I am on fresh water thing that the aluminum should last ok (stainless is another $100). Question-
what kind of hardware did you use to mount your bimini? DId you use screws (what kind) or drill and nut/bolt  ?

Thanks for the help...

For a buck, get the stainless. Stays cleaner, won't oxidize, stronger, JMO.

Through bolt it where possible, with large washers or backup plates. Moo had one and the mounts kept coming loose even though I've only run the bimini I think twice. Mounts are loose now, and it hasn't been on since last august.

Never gonna be on her again, but dunno what I'm gonna do with it either. It is blue, obviously doesn't match the boat anyway.

fwiw-
went with (local) performance marine install and 5 yr material (sunbrella) in burgandy to match the trim on boat. With install it was $40 more than internet price so I let them do it.
Will show pictures as soon as I get them off the camera.
What a difference it made at the lake- spent most of monday at Un pleasant and really enjoeyd it (no direct sun!).  Unfortunately it looks like it takes at least 10mph off the top end (? speedo not working I just installed).
