the trailing edge of the fin should be no further forward than 47-50" from the transom. This is on a jet, not an outboard or v-drive, they have other numbers that are more critical to their set up. jets are a different animal.
Plus you don't want to use a fin that's not the right size, I've never seen one yet that you can mount out of the box.
Too far forward on the mount and the boat will bow steer, too far back and it will starve the pump in a tight turn. This was passed on to my by Roger Weiman through his many decades of setting up jets. If you have another boat like your's to copy, you're ahead of the game.
