Not pictures of you installing it (that would be killer though) but pictures of your turning fin installed . I'm lookin into it and worst case scenario , I'll just make one myself and drop it in .

rudder fin or skeg fin?

Here is an interesting story/tip that Craig Millet (pervious owner of the raspberry) shared with me.

He said that boats would handle like crap if you put the skeg fin anywhere but its 'sweet spot'....and they managed to figure out that if you put the fin in the center of gravity of the boat (with fuel, driver, etc in the boat) ...you found the sweet spot.

They would do this by jacking up the boat with a jack and a 2x4 and keep moving the jack around until they got the boat to balance.

now remember, this is 'old technique'.....so dont quote me on it.

Craig Millet and I had a two boat team by 1977. Craig started with Rasberry (brad's new project) then went to a bubble deck rogers then a hondo and finally two daytonas. I raced Ski Jet II ( 460 CIDCHevy's, single 4brl, two seat Log type exhaust) and Craig raced Comp Jet (468 CID full racing).  I can't believe that the myth that a Daytona won't turn still exists.  My first race as a rookie was at Long Beach Marine Stadium, single pin turns. The Race director told me to stay in the back for my first race, how boring!!!  I stayed there until the last lap and said screw this, floored it drove deep into the turn one set up a boat named " Fud Pucker Trucker" went outside to inside of him, hooked the bouy and was gone. Craig and Jeff said eveyone on the beach just about stained themselves when they saw that a daytona could turn.  My second race I pushed the boat even harder and found that when you hook a chine the boat will turn harder than you can hold on.  Rolled it and went swimming.  Yea Tunnels turn just fine if set up right.

Thought you guys would like to see a Daytona turn.  This is @ Bluewater about 1979-80 comming out of turn one.  You can see the fin location in this shot. It looks bigger than it actually was. my guess about 8" deep and 5"long.

This is what I'm tryin replicate , since it's the same hull. I talked with a fellow who raced it at parker a couple of years ago and he said it is amazing how well it turned . A boy can dream cant he .

Did you get your green card yet?  I have a fin similar to the one in the picture.  That is drop thru design, that should work bitchen for your boat.  Let me know.

For what it's worth, the boat above, #294 has a fixed nozel and used dual rudders to turn the boat. That fin is a little big for your needs, IMHO.  

Oh, that boat is now owned by one of the guys on the hot boat board and was, I believe, raced at the parker enduro last year. Or it was at least being prepped to be raced if it didn't make it there.

Don't know the owner, but nucking futs drove it at Parker. Get in touch with him and I'm sure he could hook you up. Also dan hurecules (sp?) knew the guy that owned it, it was his neighbor I think.

I actually talked to tim on tuesday and he could only tell me how it drove which is helpfull . I also talked to dan and I'm gonna set something up for next weekend to go over to his house and fondle her like a perv . "Jr. Jetter" is the guy who picked the boat out of the crowd . His father is the original owner of the boat and always ran those colors on other boats he raced. A very era specific metalic red, blue , and silver . Oh so sexy .
