Wipe off the cobwebs on this thread.  :-*

I picked up a rusty Gen IV 454 today. 4 Bolt mains, cast everything, peanut heads. Heads and internals will be sold. I'm working on several different trades on the rotating assembly. Once I have the rotating assembly it all goes to the machine shop. I'm still figuring out "the plan" on what I want. Today I bid on a Crower mechanical fuel injection and I was serious enough that I was outbid by only one person. I don't have the budget for a blower. Maybe I should call TIMINATOR and see what he has... the end result will be either a 468 or a 496, all forged rotating assembly, at least 12:1 compression, all roller, 049 ported heads, and an unknown intake system. But then again I'm working on a trade for a 502 also...

If I get that kind of intake, it would be just because of the looks of them. They do look sik don't they.  8)

Yea, I've read a little bit about them, sounds like a pain in the asss to set-up correctly.

The one that was on eBay was missing some parts and I was thinking maybe changing it to an EFI, but it doesn't matter anyways since I didn't win it.

Try to get a Crower if you go that route. You can go blower for what it would wind up costing to do the EFI. I would really like to see someone run a Crower out there. Who was it that was doing the EFI on his blower, I chatted with him a little.

I'm almost done working the bugs out on a trade. I'm getting a forged 454 GM crank, forged Manley H-Beam rods, forged Ross 13:1 pistons, CompCams solid roller lifters, and the matched flexplate and balancer for the balanced rotating assembly. Once I finish the trade I'll just need some machining, a cam, pushrods, and a carb. It'll be a 468. I'm seriously considering running E85.

SWEET!!  The "shotgun" for a bbc is a good find. For pwr/budget...My O2
Single carb/ premium gas / Good heads, pocket port, Streemline the valve guides, polish and match chamber to head gasket( takes me about 4hrs ) ,/deburr tops o pistons / then put an NOS system on it!!! :D / an ignition retard box will help ya get the most pwr without the system on.
A similar set up in my moms 69 nova, that I used for a bet, Without the NOS, went 11.2somthing @ get this....134mph!!!! Yep I won!!!! I smoked the tires through the whole 1/4. They asked me to leave!!! >:(

Completed the trade today. I'm wondering if 105 octane is enough for 13:1 compression...  ???  My heads aren't going to flow enough to accomplish what I want, so I'm going to have to go less fancy ($$$) on the intake system and buy bigger heads.

Yep!!  You'll be fine. 8)
I assume yer talking about the E-85.?  If so yer in good shape. Clean up nthe chambers so there's no sharp edges and deburr pistons. The cooling effects of the E 85 helps prvent detonation. What heads do ya currently have? Open chamber? Double check piston to Cyl head/ valve clearance with cam degreed and one piston and rod in the block. thin layer of playdoo on piston/ slowly rotate/ cut impressions/measure. Call me if ya need more info! ;)

Yep, I'm referring to E85. I currently have 049 heads (open chamber, 118 cc, large oval) that have been ported but still have the stock sized valves in them. I'll probably keep them for a backup engine. I found a set of Merlin iron heads for $650 bare...

The oval ports will do ok. By the time ya got the merlins done you'd be to the 1000 mark. For a little more a set of alum. heads could be had. Just my thoughts.

I'm looking for more than the oval ports will provide. I was told to stay away from aluminum heads, especially ProComp, for a high HP lake boat and the guy that told me has more experience than I have soooo...

Received the Edelbrock TR today from UPS.  ;)

I need to get a water outlet, TR linkage, a pair of carbs, a pair of spark arrestor's, maybe one of those scoops (just like what JBP has used). Tom, do you have any used fiberglass scoops around you want to sell? Maybe a couple of spark arrestor's (4150) and a water outlet? Oh yea, a water shut off valve for the headers... and...

I'm considering a set of used Canfield head's ($1,300), a used set of Dart head's ($900), and if I have to a new set of Dart heads (waiting on a friend for a qoute, $1,600 from Summit)  >:D ... shopping is fun until the money is gone.  :D  The heads I'm looking at are 308cc and 310cc. 800 NA HP and/or triple digits is my goal. HD, I'm NOT getting a blower so quit trying to talk me into it!  :D

The Canfield heads have been sold, the guy finaly replied to my email. He didn't update his ad.

13:1 compression, 468, whatever heads I end up with will be capable of supporting 800 HP, dual Holley's, GM forged crank, Manley forged H Beam rods, Ross forged 13:1 pistons, an unknown at this time cam, and NOS. 800 HP won't be that easy but it shouldn't be that difficult either.

Anyone on this board know anything about NOS port injection, is it difficult to do yourself with the proper tools?
