Lol , you guys. I actually priced a hitch for the Pontiac. Then thought better of it realizing how much fun I was opening myself up for, at my own expense, from you guys! Which woulda been fun, don't get me wrong! I dun mind the Chiding in the least.

In the end, was better to buy this behemoth (And behemoth it is, will NEVER clear entry into my garage) than to face all that. Did NOT need a 1 ton 4x4, but it is what it is.

Speaking of which, anyone have a receiver for one of these things? Seems the original was jacked! Need to find one quick or I'm going to U-Haul and get raped............ again.... and..... it's almost getting enjoyable.......

Good lookin rig Ray. Before you go to u-haul for an ass spanking I would check out some other places. Oddly enough I have noticed alot of muffler places do trailer hitches also. Go figure

Captain Bovine,
Not sure if you mean the entire hitch system or just the slide in part with the ball and such, if it's the latter you can get them @ Home Cheapo, Kragen, Wally World, just about anywhere. U-Haul is actually pretty good on thier prices for hitch setups, I had them do my 98 Chevy in '02 for right around $500 installed with wiring kit.

Need the receiver, Skip, but thanks. Anyway, Twas the receiver missing, plugs and hookups are all there. Home Cheapo, my employer, no way shape or form carries an insert capable of compensating for this ride. Gonna need an adjustable height deal on this rig. This thing is HIGH!

I had receiver, hitch, wiring done at a local muffler shop--actually the 5th one the guy has installed for me on different vehicles. This last one cost me $325. I wouldn't go anywhere else because the guy custom fabricates each one.

Buy the Valley Industries hitch @ Napa and bolt it on yourself. They bolt into existing holes, took me 45 minutes for my Suburban. $165 or something...

Look on ebay for a hitch. They are usually dirt cheap on there and the shipping usually isnt too bad.

Thanks Joe. Did that. Can buy one locally cheaper I think and put it on myself. Just thought maybe someone had one laying around. Not a big deal, but need it before next weekend obviously!

Should be ready to fire the boat Tomorrow! Then to water test it and break it in. (The guy from Joe Gibbs told me to run their BR oil for 2 hours or so then drain it and put in the HR oil). We're thinking of dragging it to Saguaro Lake Sunday. We'll see how that goes! Finishing up the wiring right now. Taking a beer break.

What grease is used in the pump? It's already set up with zerk fittings, so grease must be what's in there! So I need to make sure that's full!

Other than that, ready for Mead next weekend!

Oh and Joe, you're more than welcome to participate in all this tomorrow evening and Sunday. I know you're close. You too Forkie, I know you're on the west side, but still close. Might need someone to help lift the engine up to drain the oil when we get back! (Only way to do it, new pan didn't make it easy to configure an oil drain right away, another one of those things I gotta upgrade later!) Got it figured out in my lil brain, but we all know how far THAT can get me into trouble!

Thanks for the invites but I have been working so much between my job and wrenching on the USAC Sprint Car team I work with that my house has turned into a dump! I have spent the day doing laundry and just now got onto the message board to see your post.

I have to get a bite to eat and then head out to work. If I can, I am going to try to take my boat to the lake on Thursday for its maiden voyage.

Quite alright Joe, we didn't take her out anyway. Looked like rain, was cold, and just didn't feel like it. Did get the Hyfire 6AL and new Coil in though. I hope this thing runs ok at Mead! I'm a lil concerned..........

Allright. I have such a raging woodie I can hardly contain myself. She FIRED! Filled the block with water, didn't bother with running on the the hose as I didn't plan to run her for more than a few seconds, but she FIRED! And scared the livin SHEIT outta my neghbor (Not to mention me) who was spraying weeds in the yard beside my garage. Also scared the dog, who was inside at the time, half to death too I guess. Boat was in the garage, so it kinda amplified things a tad.

She sounds good, gonna need final timing with a light (Gonna wait for Mead to do that once I get it in the water), and probably some carb tuning, hopefully the guys coming to Mead are willing to pitch in. This Marine carb is different than anything I'm used to, and at that has been years.

Some minor problem reared it's ugly head. The Oil pressure guage is like this. Don't remember it being like this before, but could be. I think it has to do with my wiring. Honestly.

Also, and may be important, alt guage, everything is a lil kooked, but the ignition switch fell apart on me trying to crank the thing, so I used a screwdriver in the switch when all the guts to the mech came out. That might also have something to do with it. Gonna swing by Tempe Marine tomorrow and get a new switch. And life jackets, and check into ejection seats. This thing doesn't sound the least bit docile!

Hopefully the guages are ok. Might go to Autozone and pick up a cheapo three guage set and mount it in the rear somewhere just to be safe.

AND...I need to clean up this mess of wiring.....

Couldn't wait to fire her, and needed access to the crank. Now that I know it's close, I can put in the custom, termite food engine cover I built. Then mount the coil, Hyfire , oil cooler and remote oil filter stuff. The wiring I can clean up, shorten, etc and wire loom it with split loom and spiral wrap. Should be OK there. but Man!! Ready for Mead, well sorta. Would be better to be running a proven boat, but this may be even more fun!

BTW, It has an Electric choke on the carb. Should I just remove the choke plate and shaft? Or can I simply run a wire to it and choke it with a switch? Always used Mechanicals b4. Could be why she didn't want to stay running.

Dude that's awsome, congrats...BTW Me thinks you need to give that oil p gauge a percussive maintenance, looks like the sender wire was shorted and pinned the needle, tap on it to realease it and disconnect the "s" wire and try again, probably the wrong sender attatched to the gauge (he says without actually looking at it

).

Thanks Guys! We'll see about hauling ass or not. If what I heard when she fired, did it 3 times actually, is any indication, I mighta gone a lil too far. Might need to step up the impeller fairly quick. Tom Might be seeing a boat in his near future for a stainless one.

Sounded Right to me about the guage, about the "Rap" id realignment, but now I just dun trust it, so I convinced myself to run a second for time being. I'm using the original sender from the other engine, so I doubt that's it. More beleived my wiring. Though the Tach and amp guage WERE working before the switch took a dump.

Tom's sending me another o/b dump so I don't fill the boat up by T-ing into the bilge pump. Saw THAT problem immediately when I turned on the hose to fill the block. Also, when I did so, pumped antifreeze all through my cul-de-sac. From the cam break in must be. Maybe I'll have less outdoor cats................

Any ideas on pumping the Break In oil out of this thing at Mead? gonna have to do it there, and obviouosly can't lift the engine there. Nor do I wanna. Well I COULD, but I think they'd frown on that at the marina. But I do need to change the oil after a couple of hours run time or so. I can supply a container. Took 11 quarts of the stuff after priming the engine to get it level. What a waste of 90 bucks! Well, not if the engine LASTS!!!!!!

Ray, awhile back I had the same situation come up. I just grabed an extra electric fuel pump and reduced the line size down so that it would fit down the dip stick tube. When I say reduced, I mean I put the 3/8 line on it and then shoved a smaller line inside of it, and it worked great.
