Nice boat. Its cool it has been in the family forever.I would never get rid of it.Cant wait to see it after the overhaul.I wish mine looked as good as yours does now.
Do you plain on fixing just the damage area on the gel coat or just re gel coating the whole boat. I would like to know more on how you plain on fixing it because I heard repairing gel coat with metal flake underneath is difficult and my boat has the same problems as yours.
Looks like this boat is definately keeping you busy. Keep up with the pictures. We want to see them throughout the project
Are those pictures on the wall VW's? :)
Damn looks like your project is coming along pretty fast.
Great pics, educational and inspiring. I almost bought a Tahiti hull last night for $500.00, but thought it was too much project for me. Seeing your progress is causing me to rethink it. Good luck and keep the pictures coming.
goad which epoxy did you use and any other fillers in there while it set also the aprox time thanks ??? ???
I ended up not using epoxy. I used something else and I really cant say what it was. We did the bottom section first and then the top section with a couple of days apart. What we used cured in about 24 hours.
We are going to try to schedule in some glassing sessions this week into the busy schedule. Its a busy week with the races coming up next weekend.
Cool! That'll make it a lot easier to change the oil! ;D
by the way....we flipped this thing over with only 5 people. >:DWhen I thought it was just you and kyle , I was impressed ! 5 people though .... Not so much anymore . ;)
brad, when you guys flip it back on trailer can you have someone take pics through begin to end even if it goes wrong and falls on fenders or even (hope not) when it falls to ground >:( >:( >:( it happened to me about 10 yrs ago what a mess that was cause we LMAO through the whole disaster. good luck
Wow that's quite a project you've got going. What is the long range plan for this old girl? I had never heard of Wreidt boats before I bought mine and I have only seen one other on the water. I am guessing they must be well built or you wouldn't have kept it this long or tried to restore it. Are you going to repaint w/ metalflake? What comes next? Details man we need details. Good luck with it.
Brad, I saw someone on craigslist using the picture of your jet boat as an example for what the boat he's selling could look like when finished. He's selling a Wriedt with a chrysler outboard. I actually looked at the boat a few months ago but passed, a real dog.
Brad,
Been searching for that post but can't find it. This link is to the same boat for sale, but it's an older link. The one I saw last week had your boat posted in the ad too. It was kinda funny. It had this picture in it...He was wanting to trade for some gel work.

Looks great to me. I remember when I first saw that shot of your boat. Everything about it screams 'river' to me. The trailers in the back ground, the gravel, palm trees, blue sky and the boat. Reminds me so much of when I was a kid it's not funny. Love that shot. ;)
I just took some pics. I dont know how to post here. I have about 1/2 dozen and there are some around here of the boat during restro.

The Raspberry's intake is stuck at least as much as the Wriedt's is. :-\
Beer or flavored water? I'm drinking flavored water all of this weekend? ;)
I will fill the keg (coors light) and keep the fridge stocked with special requests....ie corona lights !There , I fixed you post.
I asked before I even searched.....i figured since i had not seen them around just browsing at many marine sites, they would be hard to find. I found a ton of them for cheap on ebay. Thanks for the polyurathane suggestion bluenun. I will probably go with those.Look at "overtons" for those . real cheap . Seriously , I'd do the gel in the off season . Just get it back on the water !

brad, take some photos of the intake work so we can see the way to do it and how not to so it doesn t break when beating on it ;D
So.....You getting a little lazy? ;D
West Marine has everything you could ever imagine for trailers. Not to mention in any color you want also.
How'bout tandom chrome fenders?Everytime I asked about chrome fenders they said " What the hell you want chrome for ! They are just gonna rust and go to shit in a minute. Go with the stainless , They're only a grand ." :o I said "What ? " :-\ "Yeah go with the staianless , if they get scuffed or scratched you can just have them buffed out ." ??? " Well then , since you put it like that . Sure what the hell it only a grand !" ::) What the fuk do I know . I'm just the guy holding the credit card in one hand and pulling my butt cheeck apart with the other :o

brad, i looked again at pics on page 2 i noticed that the 1 thru 5 pics show the way you installed it then in the last pics it shows a bigger piece of wood. i am doing my tahiti the same way here is my questions
why did you use contruction adhesive and not epoxy?
is the transom now double the thickness by stacking the wood?no, see above. it is stronger at the seam.
did you glass the inside of pump hole and exhaust holes?we mounted the wood and laid glass mat over it and let it dry fully then cut the holes for the exhaust ports and the excess around the pump hole....then resin'd those areas with a slow cure (less hardener) so the wood would absorb it.
how did you cut the old shit out i know it was not chiseled the cut is too clean?
and is there anything you would have done different if you had to do it over?
I take it they finished sanding the other day???
Kyle and his parents were sanding while we were out there right with your liberty right?
talked to sal.....he said hes got 3-4 boats in line after ron's ...so it wont be anytime soon.
talked to kenny at b&k marine....he highly suggests to not gelcoat it....but to paint it with some sort of urethane he suggested. ....reason being is that the metalflake will cause the new gel to crack/flake in time. i remember talking to sal about this as well, but kenny said that he prefers to remove all metalflake completely....(which is a HUGE project)...where sal suggested just sealing over it. When I had talked to Sal about this issue in the past, he had told me they had sent off samples to chemical labs to find out why they were having these issues and found out what was causing it. It had something to do with the wax coating that was on the metal flakes themselves that ate away at the gel over time. ??? I dont remember, this was well over 1 1/2 years ago.
i have also gotten recommendations to go with guys who work on bigger modern boats....but that idea now makes me uneasy because i dont think the modern guys know the history and issues involved with gelcoating metalflake over old metalflake because its not a daily modern thing they are slapping on $250,000 boats.
so now im torn. I really dont want paint. It will never last as long as gel being a lake boat that will get a lot of abuse.....but I dont want to have to wait 5-6 months to get it back either.....and i dont want someone working on it that doesnt know anything about boats that are pre-'90.
Arent cars all over this great nation cover in (oh my god , dare I say) PAINT ! :-X People dont take care of there cars and the paint holds up . I'm just sayin .....

when was the last time you beached your car on a sand bar? had someone who didnt know any better drag a cooler across the hood....walked on the hood with sandy shoes....bounced it off a dock....etc....yeah, gel isnt indestructible, but it handles the abuse much better. This gel lasted 30+ years (its nearing 40 years old) ....I would like it to last another 30 if not more.It will happen . :-\ unfortunatly
this is a family boat that will see massive amounts of abuse. i guarantee that any paint will not last 2 seasons.

If anyone does any of the above shit to my boat, I'll see to it that there WILL NOT be a repeat performance.
This would be when Kyle tells his sisters what kind of behavior is deemed UNACCEPTABLE, be it by them or thier crumb snatchers, if they can't abide by the rules then they don't get to go on the boat. Am I missing something? Proper behavior is learned, that's the parent's job, to teach the kids, if they don't learn, they don't boat.
Bring me a Coors prospect ;D
he really needs to come to parker...
I was talking about you! If you left right now, we could hit The Mint by 9:30. Marc, go pick him up and roll.
That sounds like a good day to me, two of the most stand up guys I've met, can't be a bad day.thanks Skip, you coming out to brocks tomarrow? i'll be there about 10:30/11:00

its official. finally makin a motion on this project! kyle took it in this morning and got a quote and made an appointment for gelcoat at oc boat repair. it goes in on the 28th and will take 6-8 weeks.
Would it be too much to ask about how much coin for a gelcoat job??
Looks like the broken top part of a guide bose . Has it got guide liners in the heads or false guides guides was probably broken when motor broke valve spring.
unless the 7 has a serious tail on the upper flat part on the left....i would figure its a 5 ???
well, kyle picked up the wriet from orange county boat repair over the weekend and i am beyond impressed with the work they did. i will let the pictures speak for themselves :o

this right here is un-fukkin-believeable. im embarrassed about this....this is the result of taking my cousin's heads to a guy that came highly recommended.....turns out he put on missmatched rockers and one of them was broken... some people shouldnt be allowed to work on shit.
just got this picture last night from kyle.....tanks and engine are in....its all simple stuff from here.
Looks really nice, almost too nice to use...Belongs in a showroom
You have done it proud.
