If you are talking about separating the ball joint, that style  does not come apart. You need to remove the nut and pull the stud out of the pedal arm, then unscrew the other half from the cable. There is another style of ball joint that does come apart. It has a spring loaded sleeve that keeps the ball in the socket.

Separating the ball joint from the stud on the foot throttle. If I remove the nut there's not enough room to slide the stud out of throttle.

Got it. Removing the pivot bolt allowed the pedal to slide down so I could unscrew the fitting. Spring is broken. Does anyone know where to find a replacement?

You can buy virtually any spring you can dream up at most Ace Hardware stores. I paint mine with Rustolium.

I have mine on the carb side. Works perfect...

Should have a spring on both ends.

So I got the cable out. Had to drill out the set screw. Looks like ill be tapping that out later. But the tube that goes over the cable is still stuck in the housing. It's loose, rotates but won't come out. It looks pretty rusty. Do I just need to yank it out?

Glad I am not the only one that had the same issues that part of cable comes out one way it's got a steep in the peddle almost like a taper
