Welcome . There are adapters/reducers out there that will work. I bought a stainless steel set last time I did a similar conversion. They cost roughly $25 bucks each. I recommend double hose clamping each connection too. If an exhaust hose pops off while under way, boat will flood quickly. Those Bassetts give the motor a big boost in power. A hot boat article in the 90’s dyno’d the same motor with headers and logs. The HP gains were over 70 hp (I remember close to 90, but don’t quote me please). The logs are super restrictive. I would suggest that you find out why there is water in the motor and go from there. Good luck on your build.

The exhaust sits fairly high.  I looked over all the engine parts and found a bunch of junk. stock heads,std valves single spring, hypereutectic flat top pistons and football rods. Intake was an Edelbrock air gap Holley 850 engine is a closed cooling system.
 combination of bent rods, pushrods and heads pretty rusty indicates it ingested plenty of water. No block when I purchased so I cant look at that.
The headers are rotted out at the first bend right after the flanges, It looks like they may of had too much water from the jet and no relief valve. new to this so I'm just trying to keep it simple.
 I have a virgin 460 block now at the machine shop getting squared up. The crank was junk so now I have a 10/10 factory one and the rods will be H or I beams. Pistons will be forged I'm not sure yet on which ones it will depend on the heads. I have a line on a set of Motorsport aluminum heads.-not looking for a lot of torque and HP I just want dependability with some performance.
 I've heard that they Bassett headers are not recommended for a closed engine compartment.

Road runner thank you for the information on the adapters. Hopefully I can find a set a bit more reasonable but if not I guess I will spend the money. What would you recommend for exhaust that may flow better than the Hardin logs? If I find a set I may just dump the idea of the Hardins and go with that.

A lot of choices out there just on the steep side for new!
