they both line up with the exhaust ports, shouldn't have to alter engine cover as these came on a lot of covered cruiser boats, you might be able to run a little larger cam as the water inters them on the down side, that helps with reversion, performance is about the same as the long bolts, watch out for tall valve covers some my not work well.
