I can't wait I built my boat all summer and hate to say but ready for sand season now.  I'm ready to pull the car out the trailer and start cleaning her up a little :-) its cool to see others into VW's.  alot of people just don't understand what you can do to a air cooked VW and make good power.

its not even about the power. they are just more fun to drive. My car is basicly a two seat class nine car with wide openings to get in and out easier and a Big motor. 10 inch towers and a swing rear. Funnest car to drive hands down. Last year i broke the ring and pinion and Grandpa let me use his twin turbo LS2 sand cars unlimited 800hp beast. In all honesty i have way more fun in my car than i do that thing. Its cool to grab gears and pull wheelies but you almost have to lay your life on the line to have any fun in it. It handles everything up to about 100mph. and i dont want to make a mistake at that speed with friends in the car. In my VW i drive it like im runnign the baja 1000 and having a blast!! jumps the little jumps dosent just roll over everything like it is not there.

anyway i am trying to finish the max in time for thanksgiving. well not FINISH but get it usable. It takes a good three seasons to dial a newley built car in. so i would like to have it up and running even with the swing rear by the start of this season so i can start identifying the things that need to be changed or upgraded.

i just swapped back from dual carbs to a single carb. it runs much better and is more responsive. Since i only got 8 inches of travel i really didnt need the added power up top with the dual carbs. it already goes way faster than the suspension can handle. and i just had the trans rebuilt by transaxle engineering to the tune of 3200$. OUCH but it is chrome molley everything and should handle more than twice the power i am putting to it. I would guess my motor is probaly 160hp with the single carb. it scoots pretty damn well. Especialy in the high desert where i use it most. Of course in glamis you can never have enough HP.

anyway we should try to do a SOCALJETBOATS meet and greet in the dunes this year. We will be there for most of the big holidays this winter.

I think his rail is a sandcars unlimited it was in hot vws in the early 90s and not as cool

ya this is exactly what I had planned for the manx. so what IRS trans should I get to do the swap in the manx. I know I need axels cvs and some other hardware. just don't know much of the difference between 091s, 3 rib, 6 rib or whatever. I have only had swing cars.
