  Being a 4x4 you will have to change the front gears also...to match the front 

thank, I was going to buy them(front and rear gears) But I don't want to loose gas mileage. I'm getting right around 17-18 now. will it go up or down after its regeared?

I have been told,mileage may be a bit better? I'm not sure tho,cuz I havent done mine yet... Yer gettin 17/18 now ? Thats pretty good for that big 'ol thing...But to be honest,I'm just not sure  

oosp, On the freeway (running 33's) I was getting almost 20-22 mpg

Here is my experience:
I had a 1993 Ford f150 302 4x4 auto trans.  Stock had 3.55 with a 31" tire got about 13 in town and 16 on Hwy.  Installed a set of 4.56 and 33" tires and gas went to 10 mpg no matter what I did.  Now I was sixteen and drove the living sh*t out of it.

I have a 98 jeep TJ with 4.0, 5 speed and put a set of 33" tires on it. Stock ratio was 3.73 and got about 10 in town and 12 - 13 on the hwy.  I ran into the guy who worked on my Ford and he said to put 4.56 in it and the miliage would increase.  I called Bull Shit, but did it any way b/c it is not a daily driver and I wanted a locker.  The miliage went to about 13-14 in town and 16-18 on the hwy

As far as the diesel goes, talk to the pros because the last thing you want to do is put too much gear in it and turn 3,000 down the freeway with the diesel. (however, there is a guy I work with that just geared his 6.0 powerstroke with 4.56 and I think he is running a 37" or 38" tire.  He says its a stump puller)

As far as pulling the trailer and boat, I dont think that your miliage is going to improve, but the gear will sure help it pull the grades easier and easier on the trans  (does it have a E4OD in by the way)

I have a 2000 Ford F-250 7.3  Diesel 4x4 and I put 37 inch tires on it and regeared from 3.73 to 4.56 and the gas milage went down a little because the motor is reving higher. I cruse it at 2,000 Rpm and im going about 68 mph and get 15 mpg. Now, when I towed my 30ft towhauler I would get the same or a little less depending on the roads. From Rancho to Glamis there is not a lot of hills. But From rancho to Dumont, there is a ton. So what im saying is, for towing its a great idea, the truck does not have to work as hard. Also to the tranny runs super cooler. Bigger tires on stock gears make the tranny work overtime causing high temps and a trip to the tranny shop if it heats up to high. Front and rear diffs need to be the same gears.     Just my 2 cents                                                      -TURBO350R-
