Canyon Lake
« on: August 25, 2015, 08:00:55 PM »
Looking for first hand info on canyon lake. My wife's parents might move there and if I can reap the benefits of the lake then even better.

I saw the following on the website.
-Must get annual boat inspection
-Must have $300k in liability insurance
-Must have the HOA on your insurance
-$40+$240 (for anything over 25 HP) fee
-And there is a noise restriction

So my questions are...am I good with over transom headers that are water cooled with baffles?

Is the lake nice and worth it?

How is the overall community?

How is the HOA?

Any first hand info would be appreciated. Thanks

Canyon lake is a 30 mph wake board boat lake once you get to it from side channels 5 mph sorry to say it but elsinore is better by 100×

Nope no headers even if you have baffles. And they have strick speed limit it eould b worth it if you could take your boat on it but to many rules and heavy fines community is good alot of wake boarding and pontoon boats. You can always go to lake elsinore its 5 min down the road .

Yeah. I don't mind Elsinore for test runs But It is nasty and I don't wanna ski in it and I don't want my kids in it either.

Thanks for the info. I won't push too hard on them moving there now. Sounds like more trouble than it's worth.

How's the community and HOA?  Is it one of those HOA's that cruises around looking for things to bust people on?

HOA will bust you up all they can. The lake is almost as green as Elsinore with no rain. They have more rules then most want to deal with. Not worth the trouble

I'll have to suggest another place for them to live. Maybe Elsinore!  Wherever  they move I'm hoping they have room for my trailer and maybe boat. Haha.

My fiancé is from the lake and has mixed reviews. From what I've seen there is a changing of the guard where it's moving from a retirement home towards a family community with a lot of safety from surrounding areas.

Positives:
Community pool
Awesome golf course
Awesome golf cart adventures to the local bars
Fun for wake boarding and pontooning

Negatives:
Strict boating rules
Traffic
Noise rules (depending on your outlook)
Small town syndrome (drama)
HOA Is pricey

Of course it all depends on your outlook, but I wouldn't write it off because you can't put your boat on the lake. I don't know where you're from, but there's not much like it around here.

I'm not interested in them moving to a place where the HOA busts people for dumb things Like leaving you trash cans out 8 hours after the trash truck came. Cuz me or my wife would most likely be dealing with the issues.   I actually thought their dues were reasonable ($245 I think). They pay HOA now so they are use to it. They are really quiet people and keep to themselves but if the HOA is a hassle I'm not interested.

Are stand up/ sit downs allowed on the lake. I didn't notice it mentioned on their website. But then again I wasn't looking.

I lived in canyon lake a few yrs back, and when they seen my boat they pretty much said they weren't going to allow me on the lake. They made me leave my bike up at the gate, and I had tow put it on a trailer or truck to get it to my house. The lake isn't what it cracked up to be, and yes it's dirty as well. That lake gets its water from the city of Elsinore, so it isn't much different. Just a different green drink!!

I used to live there , still visit friends everyone once in a while, The lake is in worse condition then The Green Drink (Elsinore) I've lived in the area for over 30 years , The city is in a financial ruin , and the POA, has a lot of political B.S. they almost lost the water rights this year because they tried to withhold payment on the lease !  They haven't been able to maintain a consistent water level for sometime . Last I heard they are recommending no body contact in the east channels because the levels of bacteria have gotten extremely high! , boat speed is 35 on main lake and  no wake in all other places , several patrol boats , I've been Canyon lake 3 times this year , and it's a absolute Zoo on the weekends ,

Also I believe you have to be the homeowner to put your boat on the lake I don't think they allow guests or family to bring boats on the lake
