Diamond Valley Lake?
« on: May 22, 2016, 10:45:18 PM »
Anybody know the scoop on Diamond Valley lake?
Says here:  http://www.mwdh2o.com/PDF_NewsRoom/DVL_reopen.pdf   that it's reopening the boat launch on May 18th. DVL website says it's 45% full.

I've never been so was curious if it would be a good alternative to Lake Elsinore, maybe deeper water?

Guess that answers my question(s).

What other local lakes are friendly to jet boats?  I just finished getting my Rogers ready for some shake-down runs before I take a river trip.  Initially I was planning to hit Elsinore, but based on what I have been reading here on SCJB, the water level there gives me concern.....

Dvl has a strict 30 mph speed limit. It's all about fishing. No body contact.

Silverwood- a bit of a drive
Perris- Diaper city- pull that out of your pump
Marine stadium LBC- salt
Puddlestone- odd or even?

I'd go to Silverwood during the week, weekends- forget it.
Prolly Frank G next- weekdays also
Marine Stadium or Newport harbor over Perris
Perris- well just drive to the river

I fished Perris today and do quite often and it's not that bad. Way cleaner than Elsinore.

Perris is soon to be the lake to go to now. I don't think it's bad at all. Just gotta make sure  your boat don't have water in it

MOI,

Thanks for the info.  Gonna give Silverwood a shot, hopefully next week.
Anything specific to watch out for there?
Are they strict about the speed limit in OW, or can you sneak in a few of seconds of WOT?

Haven't been since 05 or 06, didn't have a problem then, during the week.
I had logs n snails then too.
The elevation will eat a few rpm. 100? 200? but not much.
Ya it is 35, but a few short and safe speed runs should be ok. use your head.

MOI,

Thanks to you & everyone else chiming in with advice.

Getting there first thing in the morning sounds like the ticket. Thinking next Tuesday, after the Memorial day crowd has gone back to work.
My goal for would be to just check the work I've been doing & have had done (Pump build by Chris at B1, plus a bunch of odds & ends on my part...) make sure nothing leaks, & do a baseline tune. A run through the rpm range & a couple of WOT hits to verify the timing & carb are good, nothing crazy.  Didn't consider the elevation till you mentioned it. Hopefully I can get her pretty much dialed in & do final adjustments at the river.  Hey, if she doesn't sink or blow anything, who knows might even make a day of it! From the pic's I've seen online it looks like a lovely spot.

I like Silverwood. For fun fast runs, go early. Closer to 12 it gets busy. But still fun. Hang on the beach around 3 crowd dies down but can get choppy and windy. I've never seen people pulled over for WOT passes. But make em short. Beaches get taken up real quick.

el mojado,

Took folks advice & went to Lake Silverwood day after memorial day. Pretty nice location.  Plenty of water. Got there  at 7a.m.  Nobody on the lake at that time except a couple bass boats.  It got a bit busier around 11:00 or so, maybe 6-8 boats in all.
Not including mine, though. Got to the bottom of the launch ramp & she started taking on water.  Turns out it was a small void in the silicone bead where the bowl meets the transom housing.  Ended up just hanging out at the picnic are near the swim beach.
Going back out to Silverwood next Monday.
I would say that weekdays are the way to go there. The Rangers recommend reservations on weekends though, as they have a 60 personal watercraft limit & it sells out most Saturdays & Sundays in the summer.

BTW, if you go the day after a busy weekend, bring some T.P., all the bathrooms were out………….
