I was first out there this mornin, was like glass! Still havin a fuel pump issue, I cant get the fukr to build over 3 psi. It is my 2nd brand new Carter and I believe im done, the 1st replacement did the same crap. It started off at 4 psi, stuttered and then went to 5 psi, dropped to 3 psi, enough to run it out of fuel on the other side of the lake by coors cove. I was able to limp it back to the dock and after I got the trailer, it dropped to 2 psi. If anyone has a spare fuel pump lyin around, hit me up! If not, im just going to go with the red Holley.

Strange why your having so much trouble with a fuel pump. I'm going to assume it's a mechanical pump?, I went with a Holley 130gph marine pump and it has never givin me a problem. It feeds two modified Holley 600cfm's on my tunnelram with a Holley regulator and set pressure at 6.5lbs. Are you chasing another problem perhaps? Is your fuel pump push rod going away?, I had seen this happen to someone years ago and he too was chasing a fuel psi problem. I don't think two mechanical fuel pumps are bad, you may start looking elseware.

I'm pretty sure he has a electric pump.  But it does seem funny that the new ones like the old one.

No restrictions from the tank? Possibly starving the pump.

When I first finished my boat, I had a Holley blue 110 electric pump, and for no reason it just quit on me twice, and after sitting on the water for about five minutes, it would just start working again!.. :screwy:. I wired the whole boat myself and I could never find a reason why it did that. So that's when I decided to go with a good'ol mechanical pump and all has been great since. I had fresh tanks and the entire fuel system was freshly plumbed by me, so I knew I had no blockage issues. Weird things do happen, and sometimes we never find the cause, but for me I like to keep things as simple as possible, especially on a boat, so I'm kinda old school and like mechanical things where I can get away with it.

No restrictions, everything is clear. The psi on this pump was all over the place this morning and finally ended up at 2 psi and was as high as 5 psi. When it was reading at 5, I brought the rpms up to about 4200 and it started to stutter and dropped to 3 psi and died. It is an electric Carter pump, im going to give it one last try before calling it quits. As stated, the whole system is restriction free. I did enjoy being out there that early, it was gorgeous out there during sunrise! I think I pissed off some tent campers on the beach tho! >:D

I ran a Holley red in my Hondo, never had any issues. The way some electric components are built now, being used in a marine application, has pushed me back toward mechanical things as much as possible

It's always fun to piss off some campers with the roar of a healthy boat ;D..Your boat looks pretty radical and I'm sure it puts out some power, and we all know making power takes fuel. Perhaps that Carter pump just doesn't put out the volume needed to feed your engine. Perhaps a higher gph pump is what you need. What worked for you in the past?, did you make any combo changes to your engine? Are you against trying a good mechanical pump?..Looking at such a nice boat, and I'm sure you have alot into your engine, having a fuel pump problem shouldn't be happening. I'm quite sure it will be a simple fix as most weird stupid problems are. Just as I finished writing, I do recall having a fuel pressure issue in my 69 Chevelle about a year ago, it too has a radical BBC and my fuel pressure gauge started acting strange, pressure kept dropping and the engine stalled a few times, I was able to limp it home. I found out I had a regulator going bad, I replaced it and problem was gone, fuel pressure held steady at 6psi from then on....just food for thought.

It had a Carter in it for 14 years and I just wanted to replace it with the same model but it is not seeming to work out. There is no regulator, its just a 6 psi electric pump. I think its time to make a change! Thanks for the compliments too!

im running a holley red without a regulator and havent had an issue. 2 seasons so far

Also carry an extra "ebay" pump with regulator onboard in a zuiploc incase im far from the launch and it dies. Made all the electrical connection quick connect and just need to hook up the fuel lines.
