Im new to the so cal lake scene, been spoiled up at the sacramento deltas most my life, and am now getting into the local scene. Whats a good lake for skiing that doesnt always get blown out by wind chop? Been to castaic in the past, but no matter what its always windy.  If its got  decent coves to relax in thats a plus, but mostly lookin for input on where to find glassy water.

Any help you guys can give would be appreciated. Someone told me pyramid wasnt bad and worth the extra 28 miles roundtrip. Whadaya think?

im not opposed to a little extra car time to get to a calmer lake 

It would help if you told us where in So Cal you are.   

I've skied in the river next to the Queen Mary on a glassy morning but I'm guessing that isn't what you had in mind.  I really kinda freaked me out.  Then I fell and found out that the water was only 5 feet deep.  One of the biggest surprises of my life that was.

I heard that pyramids better then Castaic for skiing, what do you guys think. I know its more of a drive but, but any input on that?

And would prefer to stay out of the ocean.

Find a private Lake. LOL. Nothing down here comes close to the Delta.  Only thing better is a private lake. Castaic better than Pyramid. Much larger and closer. Both get blown out by 10 am. Best bet is to get anywhere in So Cal at 6:00 am. Good luck finding people that want to do that. Sorry for the bleak outlook.

My dad had his boat docked in Stockton for years. I learned how to ski up by Lost Isle..... The skiing is unbeatable no doubt.... Spent many summer months up there.

Lots of wind protection so I have heard. I haven't been there though.

I was actually thinkin perris or silverwood perris used to turn into a soup bowl at times tho idk how it is anymore

Thanks for the info guys. I think im gona try pyramid this weekend and compare it to Castaic. Heard from someone else that it wasn't as windy as Castaic, so wel see how it goes. Il keep ya posted.

If you don't mind the extra drive time, try  Lake Isabella. Get out early before the the wind starts blowing and your good to go

Isabella looks like a cool place to go, it looks like you can camp by the shore. i've only driven by (without the boat) while going hunting.

Went to pyramid yesterday and had a decent time, the ride was acting up almost like it was starving for fuel, so I posted a ques in the engine tech section. Like pyramid a lot more then Castaic, the extra half hour drive wasn't too bad either. Its got a lot more larger coves to ski into and relax in, plus the layout helps to block the wind most times. Not to mention the lack of inexperienced boaters there. Castaic was soo bad a family of nine showed up and started loading into an older  seadoo jetboat with 5 kids under 12 and not one had a life jacket on. The cop tells the driver "the kids need to have life jackets on at all times while in the boat" and the driver replied "all of them?"
