I try to offer as much as I can with this site. I am always trying to grasp onto trends and stay on top of new ideas.

I dont get around to other forums much (im not talking about other boating forums) but if you see something neat or useful on another site....or even have some new idea of how to make things work better here, I am all ears.

The SCJB Mobile app has been a huge success so far. It has its bugs, but its been working great overall.

On the other hand I have tried several things in the past that just didnt work....like the auction section and the social media like feed on the front page.

What ideas do you guys have?

My opinion Brad, you are doing an awesome job with this site   Everyone is cool, most everyone is learning something, and to me there hasn't been not any bad things said. You get the get togethers going, and all the good stuff. Tho I didn't get a fricking hat Dammit  You did mention in the past about getting a past type post dealio going and I think that would be cool. And also about getting a live chat dealio going. I think that would be cool. Not always used but was fun when I first signed on. Just my .02 Brad. Thanks again Brad for putting this place for all of us to hang and learn and have fun!!!!

I would love to have the shout box back but I realize you must have done away with it for a reason.

I would really like a video, a sticky or something about posting pics.  It always says mine are too big no matter how much I size them down, even when they are from my phone and not my wife's $$$ Canon.

SCJB store for hats, coozies, t-shirts, stickers?

Really? where have you been? lol >>>> http://store.socaljetboats.com

Thanks for all the suggestions. I did work on integrating a chat room back into the site but it never came about. it had some issues on the test site I use to test things out before i push them off on here. I think it was ka0tyk who actually suggested the software I tried out. I'll give it another run here soon.

I am really trying to push for more merchandize as well. I've only done koozies for the past few years....and the crappy shirts through spreadshirt which I was never really happy with how those turned out, plus they were way over priced. I'd like to do some freebee's (like those old school printed SCJB stickers I used to mail out).....and keyfloats too. Those are cheap, but the problem is you have to buy like a minimum of $300 worth   But if you guys remember I had towels lined up awhile ago to do. They were going to be pretty awesome....I will look into that maybe spring 2014.

Thanks everyone for helping make this place be what it has become. Can you believe its going to be 7 years old this month? Other than some smaller sites that arent really on the map, SCJB is older than all the major sites. Yeah, HB is back, but its just the name. All the old content didnt come back with it. I know it all got archived out there, but its not the hotboat we all remembered. RDP and PB both popped up when hotboat tanked and SCJB had been around for about 2 years.

Yeah, I dont pull the traffic numbers like those sites do, but I like the grass roots loyalty we have developed here.

To be honest, social media sites have taken away from forums a lot lately. Not just SCJB, its across all subjects/topics. People used to go to forums to socialize. Now everyone joins groups n stuff on FB to socialize. Even a lot of the people who regularly go to all of the SCJB meets dont post anymore on here. They connect with all their river friends via Facebook. They also depend on the SCJB facebook page for all their SCJB event news and new videos. I also see a lot of projects posted on FB but never make it on the forums other than a picture or two. I get it, but I dont know how to either beat it or incorporate it into the site. The mobile app brings in a lot of new traffic as a lot of people dont even use computers much anymore. They depend on their phone/tablet more. But the Facebook thing is a challenge. I am not complaining, just trying to figure out how to drive that traffic back off FB and onto SCJB.

so enough of me rambling...those are my thoughts on things.

Good night.

Maybe use the face book page solely for pictures, videos and merchandise advertisement and leave it at that. Don't announce trips or drop info, use it like the billboard it is.

Thats one of the problems with the site as well. I study the traffic patterns religiously and I see a lot of people never look at the home page. (maybe 25% or so).  I am working on making a home type page for the app that will give you a snapshot of whats going on (events, sales, recent posts, etc). But theres not much else I can do to direct traffic to the homepage on the actual website.

Maybe use the face book page solely for pictures, videos and merchandise advertisement and leave it at that. Don't announce trips or drop info, use it like the billboard it is.

The problem is that I would ultimately lose those members since they solely depend on FB for their information. I do link to the site whenever I post an event, or sale, etc....but that doesnt keep them coming back regularly. So the ultimate idea here is to not cut them off, but work on ideas to keep them coming back. Also keep people from posting their project updates, river trip pictures, etc only on FB, but to want them to come here and share them as well.

money....I needed about a grand to get it off the ground. Every time I've had the money, I've always had something else to spend it on.

fb is a great way to "blast" people with information.  theres no other GOOD way to put information in peoples faces.  sure a picture here or there is nice but if there is a meet and you want people to go you gotta let them know it exists.  but theres that balance of information, and annoying.  we run the facebook accounts for infiniti, subaru, audi, etc and infiniti is SUPER aggressive with their updates, 3-4 a day.  but thats how you get over a million followers as well... and each of those posts only gets a VERY small percentage of people actually interacting with it.  scjb probbaly has under a thousand and each time brad hits the button hes probably only hitting 5-10 people.

Hey Brad... I've been thinking about trying to create a Hondo Boats registry, but got thinking it might work out better as another section to SCJB to collect information about all makes.

Basically have a place to gather and document year, make, model, first 3/last 3 hin, and photo.  Obviously geared toward the jet boat, V-drive styles that we all follow so closely but maybe even have it broken down to include I/Os and outboards.

It probably wouldn't bring in a lot of traffic but it could turn into a great resource for identification purposes.  With a couple posts on the other popular sites it could bring in some of the people just searching for a registry to find out about what they have.

I thought about just starting a thread, but decided it would be too hard to keep it to just the facts and not filled with opinions and memories.

That it is. There was an article in hot boat magazine about...6 years ago that had a real good breakdown on all the manufactures. If I remember right it went quite aways back in history. I'll try and find that issue.
