*ALMOST* bought a banks twin turbo kit...
« on: February 10, 2013, 08:58:32 PM »
went to the long beach swap meet this weekend and a dude had a gale banks twin turbo setup complete with the manifolds, risers, turbos, intercooler, piping, carb and scoop.  at first glance i noticed a LOT of white dust and general corrosion inside of the manifolds.  im guessing they had a leak somewhere and they just ran it like that.  couldve been the manifolds themselves, couldve been the passage from the manifold to riser, riser to turbo, etc... who knows.  i didnt have any way to test them.  anyways i ask the dude what he wanted and he spouted out "$1k"... i was pretty interested but the corrosion and possible leaks made me think twice.  As I said thanks and walked away he started yelling out $800, $750... my guess is that he doesnt really know what he has and trying to offload it quickly.  All I know is that these full kits are rare and usually worth some decent coin.

Maybe next week he'll be there again and I can look into it more... looking back i didnt get his contact info.  DOH!

everything looked the same as this setup:

Well if you show up next week, you will be the only one there. You're gonna have to wait until next moth and take a chance. I also looked at it. It seemed to be fairly complete. Just didn't have that kind of scratch on me.

Mine was stiff when working it back and forth on the trailer.
Once I got it on the water and under power, it was amazing!

Almost looks as nice as my old set up....that I sold for not much more than that ....
With a turbo cam.

The key to those is they make gobs of torque and decent horse power which is good if you are turning a big prop.
