1976 Waikiki AMC 401 Clueless

Ok, here I go.....Jet Boating, long time admirer, first time buyer! I recently purchased a 1976 Waikiki Jet Boat equipped with a AMC 401 and I believe a Jacuzzi pump. The boat needs much TLC but I bought it for a nickle with newer trailer. Problem Im having is finding info/specs. on this boat. Apparently the manufacture was only in production for two years. Any help, post, pictures etc. would be greatly appreciated. What I have discovered doing what little research there is out there, is that the 401 motor is not a big block and that everyone wants to buy it. The boat needs a new carburetor but I am undecided what cfm I should place on this motor due to the unknown horse power rating.

Amc didn't do the small block, big block thing, they did short deck and raised deck. And a raised deck went from like 304" to 401" everyone wants 390's and 401's. If you're an amc person.. Put a 750 double pumper on it and roll

Aquaholic72, I was thinking an edelbrock 1410 750 cfm, from what I've researched, its pretty much turn key from the box which is good cause i'm not a carb tuning kinda guy. Appreciate the the info though and will look into the double pumper. Not really an AMC person and was looking into taking the 460 out of my CVX 20 and swapping it with the 401, unsure if there is an adapter plate for the Berkley to Jacuzzi pump.

That boat came with a amc 360 and a panther jet. Same block as a 401, look at the sides of the block - CID is cast into it.
I had a javelin amx with the 360, they were factory balanced and had fair power. Depends what you want to do with the boat but a BBC would be the best swap.

Edelbrocks are cool for cruisers, pretty simple and they don't leak, I'm with laveyjoel on the bbc swap tho!! Lol

If is actually a 401, it's still bigger than aquaholics 396...lol

I wouldn't mess with putting a BBC or bbf because of the pump. That panther performs fine with stockish hp, but with big hp, ya need a mixed flow pump, aka a Berkeley, dominator, American Turbine, etc. Panther is basically a big jet ski pump. (axial flow).

Carb? Holley 650 or 750 if it's a 401. Both in a 3310 style.

I've run them back to back and the 750 Holley had 200 more rpm than the Eddy carb. Just my $0.02
