So, this year we were asked again if we could help out with another engine, for another boat, to go in this year’s Semper Fi raffle boat. With the great success and huge donation that was able to be made with last year’s boat, course we said yes. This year, since I actually have a little time, I’m going to do a few progress updates and pics of the engine as we go along. One, so people see what they are getting with this boat with their raffle tickets... and two, to help keep this project for a great cause, on people’s mind so hopefully, ya’ll can make it out to HP Fest in November, and buy a ticket... or ten.
This year we’re building a nice, solid 408 cubic inch Big Block Chevy... nothing overly exotic... just a solid 420hp single carb, pump gas, reliable runner.
Also... I, personally, would like to thank fellow SCJB member, Ryan Carnahan for the donor short block that was originally in his 19’ Charger. With all forged internals, it was a great candidate to build from.
First step... after cleaning, mag checking, and inspecting the block, crank, and rods... the block was put in our Sunnen line hone to have the main bores trued up, not only for size, and roundness, but to ensure that the main centerline was established. This is what pretty much all further machining operations are based off off, index surfacing the decks and boring the cylinders.
