No offense intended but a 23 mile trek in open ocean with our type of boats is a recipe for disaster.

None taken....the farthest ive been was 10 miles out of san francisco in the middle of november last year in a light storm with 4 foot rollers when i had to spread my dads ashes.. So if it is a calm day and pay attention to weather forecast and can follow the tour boat i should be fine....ive seen on the site before of people doing it...

Ok here we go with the facts:  if you have the fuel capacity to navigate the open ocean to Catalina fighting the currents I’d be shocked. Once there refueling is a big question mark because it’s catered to large boats. I don’t think they allow you to beach your boat in the harbor and everywhere else is waves and rocks. Weather can change on a dime and now you’re in 6’ plus seas. You have no navigation or communication equipment. There are maritime regulations and shipping lanes. Ever seen the wake from a naval vessel or oil tanker?  If you have a mechanical failure you’re done, current will take you. And if you’re in the path of a large vessel as I mentioned your done they can’t stop those ships for miles.  And once you’re in the water you are no longer at the top of the food chain. I’m posting so I don’t have regrets putting it out there.

Personally I wouldn’t do it in a day cruiser either but remember your draft is low, way low...  Good luck
