addictor project
« on: February 10, 2012, 09:22:15 AM »
So i am pretty sure my river place is going to sell soon :-[.. times are a changing. anyway I have a jet ski there that i never use. So what i am thinking is to buy an addictor hull with no motor or anything and swapping the motor and drive from my jet ski to the addictor. has anyone done this? anyong got any pics of one that has already been done?

I want forward and reverse and a place diverter so some fab work will be needed. anyway just throwing that out there. so i dont make some stupid rookie mistakes.

Mine was stiff when working it back and forth on the trailer.
Once I got it on the water and under power, it was amazing!

I am worried about the length of the jet ski motor and pump when compared to the length of the back of the addictor. Might have to take this one to grandpas shop.

do a kachina style set back on the pump.

Tony, Tony, Bro, I mean really. You did the Jet boat thing, then you went and got the deck boat. You did the Marriage thing, then started vintage MX racing, then the Speed channel Car challenge thing, Now this?

Get the phuck over here and we'll talk.

BTW, Cool as hell Idea! Personally, I'd maybe use your jet or more likely a Berk 6jc and a water cooled 750cc+ engine from a "back east" snowmobile............

Oh Ray, glad to see you're back.

Sounds like it could be a blast, post up the progress when you start cutting.  I have never touched a snow mobile but I would imagine a jet ski to mini boat swap would be a hit easier to manage.

Tony, I have had 2 Addictors. They are a blast. I would think with some mods to the area behind the seat you would have enough room. The only problem might be keeping enough boat in the water. I would think it would air out too much to keep the pump loaded. If you go to www.addictorboats.com sometimes there are bare hulls that pop up on there. Should be a fun project. Kept us posted.

that is exactly what i came on here to post. will my jet ski 700cc motor spin that Berk 6jc. the jet ski pump has a very long intake and drive shaft. the berk set up is much more compact. My jet ski is 10 ft long so is this boat hull. Not looking for super performance or to spend a lot of money. I have the wave runner sitting here and it runs perfect. I just think jet skis are GAY and this mini jet would be soooo much cooler.

do they make a diverter for the Berk 6jc

Not to plug, but get with Tom at JBP. His Aggressor endeavor early on showed pics in the super secret catalog of a twin 6J-sized jet setup.........dunno if he plans to make 'em or not tho, but would be a good shot at maybe sumpin new layin around or parts for such a beast.  ;)

I don't see any reason why a low end 50-60hp, or even well over a 100HP Snowmobile, jet ski, or motorcycle engine couldn't spin a 6 sized jet drive to the freakin moon and back. 2 cycle would probably be the way to go, but these newer 4 strokes in those things are amazing! I wouldn't rule out ripping a motor out of a sizeable Eggbeater either as a possibility (Pat leaves his unsecured quite a bit.......).

I would also consider using a driveline coupler from these newer Camaros and the '04-06 GTO vs a regular driveline. Kinda surprised noone has done it on a 12J drive yet, but that'd mount the engine crankshaft right on the jet input shaft, with the right custom adaptors. No U-Joints required, and shortening the engine compartment needs considerably.

Those little jet drives were built to run behind things like Kawasaki industrial engines (What the original Mule and JD utility ORUV's used), or Wisconsin twins ( Basically oversized twin and triple cylinder Briggs and Strattons) available at the time. But I also see no reason traditional thinking on impellers, etc we use on 12J equipment would be that much different, just scaled down.

Impellers, wear rings, etc, etc.......well, you really need to get with Tom on it I think. Obviously Bob has some experience with them as well, but he probably sold them to buy new toilets or bathroom tile or something........... >:D

Thanks for all the insight ray. I am going to need to keep the overall length of motor and pump to a minimum. I am already going to have to move the cockpit of the boat forward to fit the motor in the back.

let me know if you guys find a good deal on a 6ja

waiting on tom to get back to me about a pump. I really dont want to spend 400 on the one on ebay. I am not even sure if this project is going to work. I have been doing research via google and have not come up with many other people who have done this conversion. I am not sure if people just have not done it or if the people who have tried it failed misserably.

my goal is to keep cost down on the 1st generation mini boat. If this thing works and is as fun as i think it will be i will buy another hull and build a nice one. I just need to get to the river and pick up my jet ski and i am ready to roll.

i even registered the new hull today to give me some motovation to get this thing moving.

So in this pic it shows the stock waverunner pump. If you look at item 5. Why couldnt i just cut that shaft and shorten it? that would get me 6 inchers or so i would imagine?

also if need be i could do a set back like the kachina boats used to have. or my other option is to extend the whole boat. just cut it in half and add a foot or two. kinda want to make this thing as small as possible though

Sounds good. Are you leaving the transmission on the bike engine or removing it all and modifying the case and crankshaft driving it?
