advice for taking boat off of trailer?

Hey,

Any ideas on how to build a stand or what i can use to put my rogers on besides the trailer?

I was thinking about 3 furniture dollies and doing the "lincoln" logs ontop of them. then setting the trailer on it. but im worried that while working on the trailer they might "slip" out from underneath? I need to have the intake hole accessible as well.

its going to be off the trailer for a while. while i finish up painting the top half and some other work. i think im just going to build one of these:

take some 2x4's and chop em into 1' sections. stack em on top of each other and secure with a screw, nail, etc. doesnt really need to be anything crazy. like making a stack of lincoln logs. set the boat on that in the rear corners and the front bow. (this was a junk hull so i wasnt really concerned and i only made 2x...) its cheap and they're strong as hell.

that would work, but i really need it to be on wheels so i can move it around by myself easily.

the boat, but i dont plan on putting it back on the trailer until all the paint and body work is done. so need to be able to move it around. only one garage and two boats :/

Have you looked into (because i havent) just clear gelcoating over the factory gelcoat? The bahner is fading pretty badly, and while i can colorsand/buff it out it seems to fade quickly. Was thinking about having it done or just doing it. and re-clearcoating (if thats a word) the gel thats there.

my bahner has the original wood panel in the middle of my stripes on the front of the boat and down the sides. the previous owner taped it off and sprayed white paint over it to cover it up. i have a few holes in the transom from the old swim steps, holes in the front of the dash from the windshield that was there, etc. at this point it just needs to be torn apart, sanded, and painted white. i just dont want to hear the wife complain about the boat being torn apart. haha.

also if you look closely enough you can see the boats old name in the yellow on the top of the transom... PANTIES & BEER

didnt notice it until i did a wetsand and a buff... the oxidation was covering it up.

How do you like your offshore controls? Its time to replace the bahner's original crap from 1980 and while im there i like the way the twin sticks look

i like them 500x better than foot controls thats for sure. doing an hour long ride and not having to hold the throttle the entire time is great. i like where i placed them but the handle itself is a bit long. wondering if theres a way i can shorten them up.

I've heard they are difficult to setup/adjust is that the case? If i do go with them, they will be in the same place as yours.

What ones do you have? make/model?

what are off shore controls and how do you have it set up in your boat? (must have missed a pic, if there was one)

teleflex (also morse MY controls) offshore controls with a rexmarine trim switch. they're not difficult to setup at all. theres the clip for the 33c cable and then theres like 3x holes in the mechanism.

you can find used ones from time to time on offshoreonly.com's for sale section for a good deal. otherwise its 600+ for a new one. even more for a fancy livorsi setup.

this is what i went with. im getting another hull to transfer rigging from current ride into it. so dolly needed to be beefy enough. i planned on having hull completely loaded minus engine before placing it on trailer. both hulls are 21' cruisers. new hull hasnt arrived yet, so i will most likely need to adjust placement of bunks on wooden dolly when it arrives, also will have to raise them cause im sure the keel will hit. i didnt want to guess and do the work twice....so im waiting for the hull to arrive....any day now.....

frame is of 2x6s; 12 feet long - 5 feet wide. bunks are 2x4s...there will be another pair of bunks as it is on my trailer, just waiting on hull to arrive.
frame is doubled up everywhere. 6", 3/8 lags bolts...no need for galvanized. 3.5" coarse gold screws for doubling up 2x6s.
wheels are solid urethane, 8" dia. 900 pound rating, all 4 swivel. you may not need 8"....where ill end up with hull has either decomposed granite or real small pebbles....off pavement basically and i needed larger wheels to make it easy to push it around when loaded. id say 6" wheels for you on concrete. maybe even 4 depending on how big your boat is. if its a smaller boat, you may not need to double the 2x6s. total cost was just under $200 and i still need some type of carpet or padding for dolly bunks.

i dont know the max load it can hold.....but with doubled 2x6s and those wheels....i should have no issues supporting a loaded hull(18-2200lbs).
to load hull on to it....i had planned on strapping dolly to back of trailer....attach another strap to back of hull and truck and pull it off trailer on to dolly. lower tongue of trailer just enough so its higher than dolly....if need be, dolly sits pretty high. dolly is as long as my bunks are on my trailer...so full support on dolly as it is on trailer....bow of boat will extend pass dolly. ill post pics when hull finally arrives. good luck!

So you are just running normal 33c cables? Not "mercruiser" ones? Any adapters needed?
