Berkley VS American Turbine Droop Snoot

Which has a better designed Droop Snoot? I see that the Berkley has a divider where as the American Turbine doesn't. Does it make a difference? Does the divider straighten out the water flow out of the bowl?

I am starting to gather parts as I am starting a major rebuild of my Eliminator and want to try something new. This will give me a chance to find on on the used market before I need it

Some people swear by the droops with a divider and some feel that the divider is a restriction.  Full droops that have dividers were available in both horizontal or vertical dividers.

In my opinion, for a full-droop, the American Turbine is the best shape.  There is not  a lot of difference in the shape between the American Turbine and the Berkeley.  If you find a great deal on a good used Berkeley, you won't notice the difference.  Just make sure the steering socket doesn't have too much wear.

Should you consider a mini-droop, the Place Diverter HPH has the best shape.

It is possible to remove the divider, should you decide to.

On a side note, the divider always ends up giving me grief, installing on a Berkeley bowl, because of interference with the bowl plug.  For that reason, I would never buy or recommend a divided droop.  You can cut/grind the divider to clear the bowl plug.

After thinking about it for a while, my thought was to actually go with a droop without the divider as I am thinking of changing over to a greased bowl. I am hoping I can get in there with the grease nozzle with out removing everything. I would not be too concerned about wear in the steering socket as it can always be bored and a bronze or Ohlite (?) bushing put in.

Will the mini droop work with a V bottom. From what I have read, the full droop is a better choice As I am a ways out on this venture, I  can look for something to come up. I need to have major gel work on the deck, interior and carpet redone, and major engine work completed.

On a side note, what is your thought of the Place Diverter ride plate vs a true plate and shoe. I am hijacking my own thread. As everything is coming out of the boat, now would be a good time to do a shoe and ride plate.

Let me ask this question first, why do you want to change to a grease lubricating bowl?

You will probably need to make an extended reach grease gun.

As far as wearing out, yes, the bushings are a normal wear item.  When I say a droop is worn out, I'm referring to the ball socket, which will leak and spray water everywhere.  You can't economically remachine the spherical radius

Most 18s and 19s respond well to a full droop when a Berkeley intake is utilized.  Some hulls naturally generate too much lift and adding a full droop make them prone to porpoising.

Depending on how much horsepower and weight a 20'+ has will influence if a full droop is beneficial or not.  In this size range, you have to see if YOUR combination likes the full or mini by testing.  It's possible that the boat could take advantage of the extra lift, but there isn't enough thrust to be a noticeable gain.  Then you get into the issue of lost thrust from bending the water etc.

Best thing is to hook up with some friends who would let you borrow one to test on your boat.  Ultimately, you want to know if there will be a net gain on YOUR boat.  You should be able to turn your steering tube around and adjust the length to accommodate a droop, at least during testing.

When a low profile intake is used, you are locked into running a mini droop, otherwise the nozzle will plow through the water like a wake plate on a wakeboard boat.

Honestly, I have no real experience with the performance of a Place Diverter bolt-on ride plate.  That particular setup is not marketed towards the demographic that I usually build boats for.
