With modern technology being what it is, it is relatively easy for "Joe Motorboater" to achieve horsepower levels unheard of in the seventies. My question is "how come nobody builds a pump larger in capacity, volume, diameter, whatever ya wanna call it? If you are running better than say 600 hp I would think you could move enough water to warrant a larger pump. Am I wrong? Surely someone else has thought of this . . .

John ,Very good question ...... build a better mouse trap !! demand and production = $$$ , $$$=sales and pay R&D as I'm sure you know , for example when we desinged the Panther Mod kit & we and AT spent a great deal of time and $$ building designing testing and tooling , once built then it has to sell , in this "sleepy" market not much demand , Things like this are relegated to small entreprenuers and "Joe six pack" working on his/her own . Even then theres a lot of "one off" peices. There are however "lots of things in the works by various Folks around the country , We're working (off and on) on a several new ideas as is AT/Dom and I belive Duane HTP has some new things on the horizon . Not so much Bigger ,but hopefully better ....

GC, here is some "food for thought", my friend Tim in Oregon thought the same thing you did, he is the one that built the T58 turbine powered jet boat, that boat has been tested and tested but if you notice still uses a "12" series pump, now that boat makes 1500+/- HP, it ran up and back a 38 mile whitewater river at a sustained average speed of over 120MPH, what that tells me is the "12 series" pumps have a lot left on the shelf...
I'm not sure bigger would necessarily be any better, I could be off by quite a bit, but then again I am of the mindset that lighter is better, so maybe if the boat is heavier you would be right on que...
I guess this is one of those "wide open debates". I do know that if there was a redesigned pump, I'm not so sure I would ever be able to afford one, its kind of like the VCR when they were first introduced, they were like $600, now you can get one for about $30. ???
Cool thread though.... 8)

They are being made. I’m not sure for the industry that we are using them for (Joe boater). I have seen transport fairies in Europe driven by two very large Jet drives. The military is also using a jet for their amphibious personnel vehicles. These are VERY large HP applications though.

Yeah if we want new kindza pumps we have to figure out how to either
1) start a war where they got lot's of rivers
2) get some jet pumps on the NASCAR circuit
3) solve the oil crisis with a jet pump

Yooo hooo big bus fairy I no where theres a mechanic in Santa Maria that has some tools for you ....

OK I guess the need just isn't there. Like in GT's post, the current design can move a boat pretty good I guess. If 1500 hp won't overload, I guess nothing will. I was kinda seeing it like a stroker crank. Less speed moves more water due to increased volume.
I appreciate R&D as much as anybody, but it seems like with so few parts, just bigger castings would not be that tough to engineer. Guess I just don't shit 'bout one more thing in this world. Fuk it IT'S TIME FOR SOME FOOTBALL ! ! ! !! !
