Actually he didn't have the balls to pardon them, which would say "Oops the govt. f'd up and did these men wrong."
He commuted their sentences, so they are free but still guilty of "wrongly shooting a dangerous, fleeing, illegal, drug courier in the ass."

Eh not such a bad thing to have on your record I guess.   ;D

Tom, I am sure Bush knew what his options were.  Each one of his options has some very specific actions and results.  He could have done the right thing.  Course that would have needed to have been done 10 months ago.  Instead he sent yet another message of weakness to the rest of the world, a message that screams "The USA has no control over its borders!!!"   "Everybody welcome!!!"

I guess the guy could have stayed around and explained a couple o hundred pounds of pot  :o

Probably would have been better than a cap in the ass but his overwhelming feelings of guilt and shame must have gotten the best of him.  ;)

This is the kind of crap I'm talking about!  I just heard on the radio that their release date will be March 20th.

WTF    What does that say about how strongly W feels about doing the right thing in this case?   I guess they are not that high up on the list after all.

These guys did not deserve what they got...prison for doing their job ?? Border patrol agents are so overwhelmed its ridiculous...I have buddies in this profession who are shot at from the other side of the border and cannot return fire because of laws set into place by our own government !! WOW !! Maybe there was more to it then we know...I know in my job we sometimes let our emotions get the best of us and take that "cheap shot " when they are cuffed and on the ground..who knows?? But I agree let them go home to their families....Prison is NO place for former law enforcement  :o

first off, I believe wholeheartedly that dirty cops need to be in prison, hell make them walk the mainline!!! but these guys were far from dirty. Got a buddy who is bp and he told me that these agents were the victims of a media witchhunt. I agree Bush should have pardoned them and reinstated them back into the BP (not that they would if given the chance). It falls under the same actions of the officers who beat Rodney King. Those officers followed LAPD policy for baton use. That's why a jury could not convict them. I saw the whole video that show King fighting with them after being sprayed with mace prior to their use of batons. I've been through baton training, we are instructed to order the suspect to stop, use a forward strike, repeat our order to stop, if the suspect disobeys, use a reverse strike and repeat this process until we get compliance with our orders. Sorry for getting a little off base.

I am originally from Youngstown, Ohio. There was an incident that was all over the news there quite a few years ago.

Seems the same guy kept robbing this 7-11, and many others. One owner was closing one night and this guy robbed him at gunpoint. The owner pulled his loaded .357 from under his counter and the robber fled. Here's where it gets interesting.

The owner ran out trying to stop the guy so he could be arrested, the guy turned and shot at him while running down the street. The owner returned fire and killed him. The fatal  shot was fired from a 2" barrelled .357 at something close to 45 yards.

The Felon hit the street and his gun broke to pieces on the sidewalk. A Charter Arms piece of crap, the Yugo of handguns.

The guy ends up indicted by the Grand Jury (Go Figure, In Youngstown, but he wasn't italian, he was Middle Eastern). They had powder residue on the theif's hands and clothes, PROVING the felon had fired a gun, yet the cops, in their "Investigation", said the gun they found at the scene could not have been fired, as it was all busted up. The gun even had two spent rounds in it's chambers.

Took the poor 7-11 owner 3 years to get that all done and over with. And at what cost in attorneys and filing fees? Dunno if he ever sued the Youngstown PD, but shoulda.

IMHO, the guy should get a medal for being able to place a fatal shot on a habitual felon at some 45 yards away, under stress, running, with a 2" revolver no matter what caliber. I challenge ANYONE in the Law Enforcement or Military communities to match that.
