Boat Registration Search
« on: April 22, 2013, 02:20:50 PM »
Hey guys, new member here. My dad had a 21ft Omega Daycruiser that he bought new. I grew up on the Columbia River in Washington near Camas/Washougal. People who know the area know of the marina where my parents moved a house down river on a barge and it now sits at the corner of the  marina parking lot. We moved to florida in 1993 and my dad put his newly restored boat up for sale in the marina showroom. The boat sold and unfortunately my dad never saw a penny from the sale of the boat (those bastards...). My question is, is it possible to find out who owns the boat now through boat registration records? My hopes are to find the boat, buy it back, restore it, and gift it to my dad. What do you guys think?

I think he signed it over for the marina to sell it for him. The boat sold and the marina went out of business shortly thereafter. Basically took the money and ran... I'm guessing the amount of money it would cost to go after the guy would've been more than the sale of the boat...I was only 8 at the time so I don't know the exact details.

Boat numbers huh? Will have to get the photo albums out and hope that it's in one of the pictures...otherwise you think they could look it up by his name? I doubt the new owner would put new numbers on the boat, ya think?

I own several boats, and Only one had AZ #'s on it. 3 had CF #'s, and one had NV #'s. Ca has DMV, AZ has Game and Fish, NV has Dept. of Wildlife, Etc. Knowing where to look is half the battle.

I learned from an old family friend who's a retired detective that Wa State Patrol have that information in a database called ACCESS. It's illegal for police to use the system for personal use (of course), but we'll see where this takes me... Keep the ideas coming though!

Exciting news! So I found out who bought the boat (through all legal means  ;)) and contacted them. They were gracious enough to tell me they sold it to a doctor (I'll keep his name private) who is still in practice. Apparently the doctor either sold it or donated the boat to a kids' summer camp. I wonder if they would donate the boat back to me  ;D... I'll have to wait and see...hopefully they didn't run it into the ground like most summer camps I have seen do... I plan on contacting the doctor this week to find out which summer camp has it (or used to have). Wish me luck!

I guess I should have been more specific.
