Define Close...

Close as in , 4150 flange gasket since thats what these four holes are going to flow through. A Dominator does not flow air in a square shape (as in the case of the 4500 "gasket") Its flowing air through this.....

And then into the square shape of the 4150 flange gasket, open plenum, or whatever .
I'm probably not explaining this very well am I.  :-\

I'm smellin' what you're stepping in, but even using 4 hole gaskets as the base math, the difference in the venturi size alone is .314" or 5/16" larger in each venturi, the throttle bore is .250" or 1/4" larger, if you add that all up you have a  carb that has a total venturi size 1.25" larger than the other, and 1.00" larger throttle bore.  Maybe I'm missing something , and I'd be stoked if someone could explain it to me, but I can't see any gain by using a 4500 carb on a 4150 intake, it just doesn't make sense  ???

I think the gain would be going from a 4150 carb to utilizing the entire 4150 plenum since the dominator will use the entire space.
You are absolutly right about the dominator being more than the 4150 flange will flow but in the same token you are using the entire space versus about 70 percent of it .
It really comes down to getting the most out of what you have.
If that means using an adapter on the 4150 flange , your technically not "losing" anything .
I think of it more as maxing out what you have.

Kind of like cylinder heads when you've reach their max.
I dont think your losing anything , you've just maxed out your combo.
Now is that the best combo, probably not but it is what it is  8)

Just remember, you can compare venturi's since you not flowing from a 4500 through a 4150.
Your flowing through the 4500's venturi's, then through a 4150 flange opening.
That should make it a little "closer"  ;D

Even with the throttle bores at 2" on the 4500 that comes out to 12.564 sq. in. surface area.
4150 flange flowable area is 12.25 sq in.
I really hope someone will correct me if my math is wrong  :-X

Hey guys - using a dominator adapter on a 4150 manifold makes MORE power than using a dominator style intake with or without a spacer.

Don't know why, but I've seen it time and time again on the dyno. My friends and I don't even bother with the dom intakes anymore...

Because theres to much info to copy (should hire Jetaholic hes good at that  :sly: )  I picked the "stats" from one RPM phase only!` @ 5K heres the scoop T! is 607 hp T2 is 607 HP T3 is 606 T4 is 613 ans T5 was 618

T1 was 1000hp on 4150 intake  = 607
T2 was 1000hp on  "    "    " with a 1inch spacer = 607
T3 was the 1050 on the same intake with the adaptor = 606
T4 was the 1050 on a Team G 4500 intake = 613
T5 was the 1050 "    "     "      "  "       "    with a one inch spacer = 618

Whats the bottom line I'm happier than Pigs in poop with My domy on my cheesy adaptor the mere size of it gives me wood  :D

Didn't buy the magazine, but read the results again today at Checkers. I went past 5000rpm though  >:D

The 4150 on 4150 intake got beat by about 8hp by the 4500 carb on the 4150 intake. The carb they were comparing on the part Tom posted was a special shop built 850 over 850 cfm... can't remember the number now though lol. But the best performer was still the 4500 with spacer on the 4500 intake, made about 14hp more than the 4500 carb on the 4150.

But then again, just like Donjuan said, only way to see if it makes a difference is to try it, only takes 10 minutes max at the ramp, and a GPS.... but remember you want to shoot for max RPM not max MPH (thank you jetaholic  ;D)

So what I'm getting from this extended exercize is that switching the intake to a 4500 Dom intake when using a dom carb instead of the adaptor on a 4150 style intake MAY be worth 14 or so HP? (Less on the scale Tom posted, only 6 HP).

I dunno much about technicals on boats, but I do know cars and a 10HP change can only be felt by the best of them. I would imagine even 14-20 HP increase would be hard to notice except on the extreme ends.

So therein lies the quagmire, why do they sell Dominator intakes at all? lol (Seems lke a waste of time and money to do so from a manufacturers standpoint).
