« on: March 01, 2007, 10:26:09 AM »
A site that I check daily for my geek needs is offering a special today on Microsoft Streets and Trips 2006 w/ GPS Locator Hardware.

Amazon sells it for $126....they are selling it for $45.

this deal is only good today (3/1/07)

With the GPS receiver plugged into your laptop, you'll always know exactly where you are. The GPS panel shows your current latitude/longitude, direction of travel, current speed, and GPS signal strength.

Here is Amazon's link: http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Streets-Trips-2006-Locator/dp/B000AOGDM0/sr=8-1/qid=1172773419/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/103-8971024-5852622?ie=UTF8&s=software

this is a great GPS solution if you have a laptop.

yeah, the more I read about it, its worth it.

Even if the Microsoft Software is flimsy and out of date (2007 is now available)....the USB GPS unit is highly rated and works well with other software such as Google Earth.

I've got both a Garmin 330 (similar to the Tom Tom) and the Microsoft Streets and Trips. Both are fantastic but have their strengths and weakness's (sp?).

The Garmin will definately get you where you're going and is small and simple. But, it's difficult to "see" where you're going and what's close.

The Streets and Trips is fantastic. It'll get you there, you can chose the route you want to go and "see" where you're going at all times, what's close or coming up and where you've been.  But, having the computer in the truck with you and keeping the battery charged can be a pain in the butt unless you have a inverter in the cab and some form of a docking station would be the best.

Two different animals that do what they're intended to do very well.

PS, no I dont get lost so often that I have to have two GPS's in the truck.....  I've reponsible for a large area with many remote sites.... >:D
