I am in the process of getting a boat trailer registered and was told I need to get an inspection done with the CHP. They need to fill out form 97c. I have googled and can not find a copy of the form or what the inspection details. Does anybody have any information on what this entails? I went buy CHP and the officer who does this is on vacation for two weeks. I was hoping if I knew what they were looking for I could get any repairs completed before my appointment.
Does this trailer have existing CA registration and title?
If its from out of state, with a title, it needs a V.I.N. verification. They really don't care about lights and such. (As long as you didn't get pulled over for a light out, etc)
If it doesn't have a title, be ready to jump though so hoops for the DMV.
Hopefully you at least have a bill of sale.
Registering it as a home built MAY be possible. Still DMV red tape.
Oh, and go on DMV's sight to see if you can find the 97c form. Also easy to get a one way temp registration for a few bucks. (I haven't needed to do that in years.)
Good luck.
I've also heard AAA taking care of things pretty effortlessly. That alone is worth membership fees. (Knowing CA DMV, I'd go with AAA)
