Title: Chroming info?

Any one know of any places around bullhead city, kingman, lake havasu that does chroming or polishing?

I don't know anyone near Havasu but I thought I would post one I do know.  These guys have done a lot of old motorcycle parts for a friend of mine and they always come out great.

I was also in need of some too, Would it be better/cheaper to have my bassett headers re chromed insted of buying new ones?   ???

I want my valve covers chromed. They are the old Mickey Thompson ones. Are those able to be chromed?

I would have them ceramic coated instead of rechromed.  Cheaper and lasts longer.

For what its worth, most of the good plating shops are gone due to EPA laws, I know of several in the OC /LA area that are ISO 9001/9002 spec shops, but they aint cheap.

I paid $420 to do my bassett twisties. New headers are $950 plus. Its cheaper to buy new valve covers too.

Jet hot....Do not re chrome your headers. Not even close to worth it IMHO....Unless you just want to look at them and not run the engine.  ;)

As for the V/C's, chrome would be cool, but why not just polish them? just curious.

We did some a while back in black wrinkle paint and polished the sides and ribs, they came out sik....I was into them for $25, sold them for $150 at a swap meet with MOPAR style breathers.. :thumbup:

What should I use for polish? I've got mothers. So just mothers and a rag? How do you get inside the fins?

Same way they would polish them when chromed... :D

I have a polisher at my house that uses cotton wheels, to get into the grooves you have to use a "loose" wheel, otherwise the Power Ball from Mothers is kick ass...Also have heard nothing but good things about Metal Wax, but have never tried it...

The in between the fins thing is why I used black wrinkle paint.  :sly:

Ok I'll try that. I'll get that power ball and polish em up. I just want them to be "chiney", even though my intake mani looks like hell. Do you have a guesstimate on how much it would be to chrome them? Just out of curiosity. Thanks

Definately closer. Havasu is only 45 mins from me. Thanks alot crewchief. Where are you getting this info. Obviously I am not looking where your looking. I'll for sure give them a call tomorrow and ask em a couple questions.

Exactly right...it's basically the first thing you see when you look at the motor. So I want them to look tits. I'll give polishing a go because its about 25 bucks to polish and 600 bucks to chrome so thats why ill try the polishing first and if that doesn't turn out to my liking I'll think about getting them chromed. But yours do look really good man. Super jealous

I have a set of the M/T valve covers and had them polished years ago and if you get any blow by or even remotely get them dirty, YOU WILL HATE LIFE!
They are getting chromed, one day.
Not to mention they are cast aluminum which I don't think polishes out the best.
Chrome you can hit with Window cleaner to clean them and wipe them down with an oily rag when stored.

This is exactly why when i did the new motor i swore to myself that i would never have a fully polished deal again...i remember spending hours polishing a motor and after 5 minutes of launching....well you know...everything was water spotted....i would go for the middle....i would powdercoat everything...its affordable...and if you ever get close to boosts boat his looks chrome...but at the end of the day he only needs some soapy water

Thanks man. I've been meaning to call that Juan guy in havasu. It's cool to hear somebody recommend him. Lol makes him worth calling I guess.

And question about the powdercoat how does powdercoat look like chrome? Nothin against powdercoat, cause I think powdercoat is badazz. But just curious.

HD and Nordie ain't lying! I half ass KINDA helped both of them before, Nordie spent a LOT of time showing me and my son HOW to do it right, but honestly.....HOURS AND HOURS AND HOURS can, and will, be spent on polished aluminum on these boats. Haven't seen how Boosts ended up first hand, but I'll take their word for it!   ;)

Boosts stuff within 5 feet looks like chrome...now even closer and it looks even better...i cant remember what color boost calls it but i like it...i will be doing the same...waxing the boat is enough but polishing on top of it just a pain...dont get me wrong polish is cheap and it really looks badass...especially on a nordie budget....the reason i brought up powder coating is because its a fine medium

Right on I'll definately give him a call before long. And I agree nordie powdercoating is super sweet looking....would love to see what your talkin bout on boost's boat. But I think I'll go with the polishing for now. Like you said....."budget" lol
