cleaning gas tanks

Ok I need some ideas on how to clean my gas tanks.  First off the are still inside the boat and I really do not want to take them out.  The boat is a 1983 crusader open bow and the boat has sat since last year and I am in the process of doing the engine and pump and I want to make sure that the tanks are good to go.  There might still be a little fuel still in them so any ideas of how to get it out and clean the inside?

If it is an electric fuel pump pull the fuel line off the carb and just turn it on into a bucket or something. change the filters do it again with some more fuel and add one more set of filters, I would think you would be good after that. If it is manual do the same thing but use a pump to suck it out.

I have the mechanical kind so I should just just a electric pump to pump it out at the T-fitting?

Denatured alcohol is your freind take a couple galons if denatured alcohol and use a pump to "swish it around", even if there is some left in there it won't hurt anything and cleans like a mother  O0

I still say , if there bad , pull them and take them to a competent (and agreeable) radiator shop and let THEM "boil" them out , cheap , easy and SAFE ! Tom

I have to agree with Tom, the only way to make sure that the tanks are clean is to boil them. Do it right the first time so you don't have to get towed in because of lack of judgement................just my 2 pennys

FWIW, the makers of por-15 have both tank cleaners,and tanks sealers. The boil thing would probably be the best if you're able to pull the tanks, if not.....
