Does anyone have one of the newer body style trucks? Got offered a smokin deal through a family friend who works at a dealership on a 2015 double cab lt with the 4.3 ecotec v6. Been reading about em apparently these new v6s are pretty bad ass 290hp and 310ftlbs. Don't really tow anything besides my bubbledeck. And the 25 mpg sounds pretty good. Let me know if any of u guys have one.

Ecotec is gm branded technology of cutting power to increase fuel efficiency.

I have a 2014 Silverado with the 5.3. I LOVE this truck. Ive personally owned one of each of the last 4 generations of silverados. And the latest one blows all of them away.

The trucks ride so nice, are so quiet and just drive great in general. The creature comforts are great, and the seats are very comfortable.

Im not a fan of V6's in full size trucks. But all i can do is tell you my experience with the 5.3.

First thing i will say, is the fuel mileage is phenomenal for a full size truck. And the 5.3 has plenty of power IMO.

For example, towing the Bahner to Blythe last time i averaged 18.9mpg. And the Bahner is a pretty heavy bitch. I drove from my house in Beaumont to Fresno (300 miles each way). I was not in a hurry and just cruised the whole way there 65-70 or so. And if I remember correctly i was getting almost 27mpg.

With that said, the mileage will drop FAST if you start running in the 80-85 mph range. But i dont see the V6 being any better in this regard.

I drive my truck daily (when im not riding the bike) and my real life commuting mileage (about 25 miles each way to and from work, mix freeway/street) averages out to about 20 mpg.

The way i look at it, thats GREAT mileage for a full size truck and having the power of the 5.3 on tap is nice too. Also, the 5.3 will run on E85, i will say it makes a big difference in power (and negative difference in mpg) but the truck is completely different on E85.

Let me know if you have any other questions. I bought my truck in April of last year, and i rolled 22k miles on it last night. I have had no issues with it other than a stereo thing.

Buy a RAM.  The money you save in gas with the GM will be nothing compared to the money you spend on repairs.  I have dealt with 6 different dealerships in the I.E. and every single one treated me like crap.  Not to mention the 5-6 different visits to fix one simple problem..

You're not the first person i've heard something like this from. I guess i'm just lucky, i have not had many issues with the last 3 trucks (4th was to old to go to a dealer).

BUT then again, I used to work at the dealer my truck goes to. So that might be why?

I am curious what issues you've ran into? My 06 had 130k on it when i traded it in. That truck only saw the dealer for maintenance.

My 08 saw the dealer 3 times for blown rear ends, however to be honest. They were abused and I broke them.

My 14 has only been in once (besides maintenance) and that was because my head unit would turn black and be unresponsive. They programmed it and i haven't had an issue since.

but again i might be lucky, some people seem to get stuck with the lemons.

I will say that the service writers in our area leave something to be desired. They typically have a bad attitude and do not care, and that sucks. But again, i might be lucky because i have an existing relationship with the dealership i use. Hell, my dad still works there

It is a long story that I have bored these guys with many times.  It was with a 97 Gran Prix that I bought brand new.  Tons of unheard of things like rack/pinion and wiring harnesses needing replacing before 20K and a trans too.  That one they admitted after the third time in that they didin't know what was wrong.  Topper was the actual shifter coming off in her hand!  It took 6 trips to get that fixed correctly and they would never even give me a rental car.
The bottom line is that THEY (Pontiac dealerships in Mo Val, Riverside, San Berdoo, and Ontario) all treated me as if I had done something wrong.  I was flat out told that (a) they were waiting for Detroit to tell them how to fix it (b) they just don't know (c) we are going to replace the window motor but we don't know if that will fix it.  It is just an inconvenience that you can't roll it up anyway (d) the trans occassionally won't come out of Park because it looks like someone might have spilled something in there

and the hits kept coming . . .  no rental cars for problems that were not getting fixed after multiple trips.  Service managers that knew nothing and were rude.  We ended up having to go to the State of Calif Board of Arbitration.  We got a court ordered bumper to bumper warranty for the life of the car.  I have never gone back to a GM dealership again, and I never will.  Now on my third Ram and all have been gassers that ran strong at 250K when I sold each one of them.  F em.  Dodges have much more room inside anyway and that is where I spend my time, not underneath em.

I will say that the modern day gm vehicles have come a long way. And their processes seem better. But again I'm obviously biased.

To the OP. I personally wouldn't relate his experience, but I would keep it in mind. Maybe talk to neighbors with new or newer gm vehicles and ask their opinions of the car and the local dealer.

My parents have a 2014 Malibu. And the car is flawless, also very nice. they had a 2011 Malibu before and it was a pos in comparison.

I truly believe it the last few years gm had improved drastically.

Government Motors....

Gm vehicles are designed to blow up before 120k!! Or at least have every major component replaced. Haha

Naw, it's all about maintenance! My girl has an 2008 Impala that we bought in late 2009 from carmax, she is overly regular with all recommended and scheduled maintenance on that thing. I've had three difference mechanics beg me to sell it to them, because it's the best condition Impala they have seen. One actually said "wow, you have 96k on this thing and it's not leaking like a siv! That's amazing."

However, I'd buy a new Ram! She really likes the Flex though, so it's going to depend who's cars takes a poop first. Haha

Ask your self these questions.  How many old Dodge trucks you see rolling around? - Almost none - Fact
How many Ford and Chevy's. Countless
They all have issues we all have bad stories.  Its all about what You like or wanna spend your hard earned cash on. 
You could pick each one apart but realistically the motors and trans of fords and chevys have been stout and log more than 200000 for a few decades now.  Dodge has been trans challenged
anyway unless it a POS Nissan you cant get a BAD truck

I agree 100 percent.

Before I bought my 14, I test drove the latest from the big 3. And in my case the Silverado was best for me.

Plus the lifetime powertrain warranty worked in MY case.

My recommendation is to drive all 3, then make a decision. But not until you've driven all 3

This!! Drive all trucks and compare all parties.

Ps- don't pick on Nissan, I had a Titan and it was a great truck! I'd get another one in a minute.

I would stick with the Chevy and if your going to buy a 1/2 ton pick up get the 5.3 motor.  That motor is rock solid.  My 06 with the 5.3 never had a problem.  I put 200,000 miles on it.  Great truck with a great motor and towed the Hallett perfect.  My grandfather just bought a 2014 Chevy 1/2 with the 5.3 and loves it. Its a great truck.  If I didn't buy my Chevy 2500 diesel, I would have got the 1/2 with the 5.3 motor again.
