I scored some free baffles today from a friend who no longer has a boat. However they don't look like any of the ones that I have seen. They look more like a cyclone. Imagine a A piece of pipe with to pieces of metal spiraling oposite from eacheother from ne end to another. Any one have any idea what kind they are or why they look this way vs. the standard screen looking ones?

D/J the way those work best is to cut them in half (obviously reducing their noise reduction capabilities) that particular unit is the most restrictive of all tested a few years back theres lots better offerings out there with better niose reduction and less HP restiction  ($75 a pair to SCJB members) Tom

I am not that concerned about the noise as much as I am about the power robbing. How mucj will baffles affect the over all power? Any kind

Typically expect 200 to 400 "turns" , some time the boat "likes" mufflers and actually don't loose or get a small increase Tom

Muffler losses can sometimes be "tuned out" for the most part, it has to do a lot with valve and ignition timing..

I have seen some well built motors work very well with some pretty restrictive exhaust systems including mufflers, Shot Guns work pretty well, but don't quiet things down very much and most rangers don't like em...I had a set (had  ) that had been modified with progressive springs and had a conical shaped insert in the pipe that were good for about 12 db and cost the engine about 100+/- rpm that was able to be tuned with the aid of a Jesel timing set (external belt) and a dash mounted timing module..

The coolest muffler system I have seen on headers is a cross pipe deal with two Borla mufflers sticking out the back of the boat, you could have a normal conversation while a 500+ inch big block was idling right next to you

Interesting,how large and where are the crossover dealios?? Personally I like the upswept headers, I can't really see the crossovers in the pics.. Bitchin boat.

that black tahiti(?) is beee-u-tee-ful!  oneday after i get over the stress of rebuilding mine and suck it up to rebuild once again, thats what i'm doin!

In the background of that black Tahiti I see a Weinhard truck . . . gotta love the PNW.   I used to drink a shitload of Henry W but now they don't seem to sell it around these parts anymore.  Started off on batch 43 and made it thru nearly every batch for the next 100.  If you don't know what I'm talking about well . . .  I guess it don't matter.  I'm guessing JRork does.
