Do you carry extra fuel?

Now is the time of year to run out of gas unexpectedly. So the question is, Do you carry extra fuel on your boat?

nah i dont need loose fuel bouncing around. fuel docks are easy to find around here. plus the new boat has 23 gallons a side. I'll have PLENTY of fuel in this thing.

With the southwind tunnel i always bring extra gas. I like making passes

No fuel docks on our river - gas has to come from the one gas station in town. Next gas is 21 miles by road north, or 26 miles south by road. I've never needed my extra fuel for me, but it has come in handy for others. You just can't tow someone on our river easily being shallow enough you have to be on a plane most of the time.

I carry 50 gallons- enough for 100 miles or so, but not enough for dam to dam runs.
I've towed a seadoo up river one time- never again, always tow down river.
2 fuel docks on the river where I boat- The Avi and Needles marina, about 13-15 miles apart.

No i never carry extra gas. But on that note i have run out more times than i care to admit, and being towed back in just sucks! Fill your tanks full and pay attention . Easier said than done.

No; I have 2 - 20 gal tanks. I can run and ski and drag the kids around on the. tube most of the day before I swap tanks....... theres fuel on the lake I usually run on if necessary.

I'm sure the size of your boat has a lot to do with it, but that is horrible gas mileage - but then who builds a Jet Boat and complains about mileage?

Mine was built more for reliability and economy than speed. I've even given thought to going dual fuel LPG/Gasoline to take advantage of the fact that gasoline peaks near $5 during the summer, and propane tanks (pun intended) below $2. I've yet to decide if I want to mount automotive LPG tanks somewhere on my boat. But it sure does sound like a great idea, high octane, clean burning, cheap. Anyone ever seen a dual-fuel jet boat?

No, I bought an outboard instead. It's rare that I burn through one 10 gallon tank in a day unless I'm running it WFO for more than a couple hours straight.

If you can make it up river...who cares. The float back with some tunes, drinks and friends is worth the paddle to the dock.

Hell sometimes you don't even need much gas. Last trip to Mac, we went to the 10 bridge and floated all the way back to Mac, never started the boat ONCE!!!! Hell even paddled to the launch ramp. Good friends and good times

Yes, the technology used in modern outboards is amazing!

I think I'd like to take my boat somewhere where floating back down the river isn't considered a wreck in progress, that sounds relaxing. In the winter you can run a large I/O up the river, but in the summer it's so shallow that in most places you need to be on a plane. 3 options, run on a plane, find a rare deep spot and tread water against the current with the throttle, or beach. Usually just the first and last, unless you need to clean your glasses or something. Trying to tow someone just throws rocks at them.

Like I said I never use the fuel for me, but for others. What with California law saying I have to render assistance (aside from my job), if ya can't tow them you either have to fix their problem or carry them down the river with you. I carry gas, tools, oil, and a few assorted generic parts. Never know when it's gonna be your turn to do a good deed.

If you are ASKED to render assistance, yes it is. It is an International and Federal law too.

I only ran outta gas once. And now that we figured out and fixed the Chargers leaky fuel tank, all is well. THAT one I carried extra fuel in after that.

Moo? Shoulda run out MANY times! But didn't quite, Bestest story was a full throttle run back upriver to the AVI from Pirates Cove.....Nordie started it....but he didn't last long..... so the kids and I decided to see if we could flat foot it clear back, roosting the beaches, etc......Damn near didn't make it, but did have enough to "Spray wash" the vehicles on the Avi Bridge. I'll never forget that day, me getting yelled at by the "Harbor commander" just as Rivertard screamed though and did the same damn thing! Guy says "You know him?" "Never seen that boat before in my life"...............

But I had 1/8 tank left in the starboard tank. ........Dunno what Rivertard had, or whether he was trying to catch me or not...... I KNOW Nordie gave up in about 30 seconds on that.........

Never.
I have 22 gallons on both sides and after all these years I have a good idea of what I can get away with. If I run out it will hopefully be up river, that will make it easier to tow my sorry ass back.
