I just picked up a new exhaust and getting rid of the logs. I now need 4" Vs. the 3" that is currently on the boat. so my question is how do I cut a clean hole in the transom to start. I found a drill guide online but I don't see anyway of holding it straight without bolting in on. also I know this may sound dumb but what about adding a couple layers of exhaust hose to the current tips to bring them to 4". thanks for the help

Use a hole saw. Draw a circle where u want the hole. Use your drill and hole saw and start with very light pressure. Try to be as square/flat as possible. Be very patient. As soon as u get that initial groove, then u can add a little pressure. Try and stay square from beginning to end. I did this exact thing with great results. Good luck.... PATIENCE!

You can use stainless reducers if you don't want to cut the holes bigger.

I have used the reducers on another project because the 3" tips were right up against the swim steps. Easy breezy install. Problem solved

Reducers would work if you have the room. Keep in mind that there will be 4 extra hose clamps in there now. If it were me I would drill the transom out to 4" and install new tips. It can be done like everyone has said. Just go slow and measure several times before you get after it with the hole saw!

Just patience. It can be done. Nice and easy. Mark the citcke and be steady. Larger tips look cooler anyways!
