Front hook
« on: July 17, 2007, 07:51:52 AM »
The hook on the front of my boat fell off  :o. I drove down to the lake on sunday and backed the boat up to the water. Went to put the plug in and un-clip the front and it was already resting on the trainler with the pin still through it. So my question is how do I fix it and if I can not were should I take it to get fixed??

Is it broken or are the bolts stripped?  If the nuts just vibrated off, find someone small enough to crawl into the bow and reinstall it.  If you can't access the bow from the inside :'(  you might want to let someone else do it.  I have read of people cutting holes to access the area then reglassing/painting the area.

What hull is it? I was able to reach the hook's bolts from the inside on my Miller, but it did suk.

Mine came off my daycruiser but it wasnt too hard to get to it. They sell new bow eyes at most boat supply places like WesT Marine etc!

My hook was broke.I had to squeeze into the bow and unbolt it.It's a sucky job.I had a piece of plywood to remove that was glassed in that held some speakers.I also found about 10 flat round inflatable things in the bow to keep the boat from sinking.I don't think the would of helped!

I cut a piece of 3/8" steel about 4"X4" to reinforce around my bow eye just cause I didnt like the way it looked! I had to buy a longer eye but it is solid now!

I hope the outside is good . The inside of mine has a 2x4 probably 9 or so inches long that the hook goes through.

I should try something, I keep bending or breaking the bail off of the cheep trailer pin type I've been using.  There aren't any rear hooks on the Hondo to tie it down when towing and I really don't want to drill/cut or modify this hull.

When I was first bringing it home and hit the rough part of the 5 freeway (between 210 and 99) I thought I was going to pull the trailer out from under the boat!

Well it only has one bolt but it is broken. I am going to try and get someone small to crawl into the bow cause my ass will not fit in there.
