Frustration with work (Rant)
« on: March 15, 2009, 12:12:15 AM »
This weekend had already been marked on the calendar to go to lake mead as per my previous schedule.

They changed my schedule with zero notice and now im working graves on weekends.

They also instated a 10% pay cut across the board for all employees which reflected for the first time in my paycheck yesterday.

Today I come into work to find out they have instated a manditory 6 day work week until further notice for all employees in my department to assit in a 'action team' to take care of an issue that was at fault of management that left the whole company with their pants down in a very critical way - now the employees are being punished to fix their fuckup.

so....they take my money away and then turn around and want me to work an extra 8 hours a week? (yes, im on salary)

I have considered walking out on my shift. I work by myself for a good 5 hours...so i wonder how long it would take them to notice im gone.....furthermore...when interviewing for another company, if i had to explain why i was terminated at my previous place of employment, do you think they would understand why i walked off the job and agree they would do the same?

im just fed up working where i am at....its taking a toll on my heath and my relationship. Due to the new schedule, i never get to spend any time with the fiance. When she is in town on the weekends, I am either working or sleeping. We dont get much "US" time anymore. It's something i know we are both strong enough to make it through, but it definatly is putting a lot of weight on both of our shoulders.

A carrer should never have this much bearing on ones well being.

im done ranting - carry on.

ps - Marc just called and from what it sounded like was a group of drunkards singing "im on a boat"...thanks for the call marc, i needed that, it really brought a smile out of this really taxing moment in my life.

nope, they use fear and uncertainty to manipulate the employees.

times are tough, but they are taking advantage of it......especially after reporting a record 1st quarter.

brad, all employers do forked up shit  hell i dont like my job or where i work, but, it pays and bought my house ;) ;)
no i dont think your next employer would understand you walking off the job, and thats the pussy way of leaving.  if your industry is any thing like mine that reputation will follow you

your relationship better be able to handle this or you should not be getting married ??? there will be much tougher times ahead. marriage IS NOT EASY and has its problems, this time is just one of them.

Even though they might say they don't blame you for walking off they would consider you as a "non team player"

The whole "we care about our employee's" is thrown out the window when they start to lose money.. and since you are on salary they can work you any way they want to......

casinos have their own set of rules, Where i work they tried to give me salary several times but i refused it.. i have a feeling its gonna be brought up again  , last six months ive been working 7 days a week although i did have a weeks vacation in there...

Cut backs are affecting everyone , my crew is gone and im solo and everyday i walk in there i want to just walk out.. But i have to look at the big picture and remember there is things i want to do and family i need to take care of..

Remember no matter where you work , there is always BULLSHIT

Stay strong Brad things will work out , they always do ;)

i know the relationship will be spared through this as i already stated - we are stronger then this, its just a weight we dont need to be throwing on our shoulders right now.

i didnt walk out last night as i had mentioned it had crossed my mind. ....still aggrivated as all hell? you betcha.

i had a very stern conversation with one of my bosses last night....I let him know where i stand and how i feel about it in the most perfession way possible. He respected my opinions and he said his feelings are not far off from mine as this ruling is effecting him as well and he has a wife and 2 kids which he rarely gets to see due to his schedule. He said he would be pushing for some sort of compensation through this (comp days) and wont let it turn into a 'human asset' type of situation. The conversation calmed my nerves a little, but im still heated overall about it.

Brad

I know how you feel, trust me I do. I had to take a 10% pay cut last month, from a job I already hated, but the simple fact is it's a job that I know will be there in a year, that's why I left Las Vegas, there was no security in it for me, I made double what I make now but I couldn't count on it for the long term.  I know you're frustrated with this situation but you've got to bite the bullet and deal with it until you either find a new job or things in your company change. When you interviewed and accepted the position were the hours and days off set? If so, and you didn't agree in writing to a schedule change, you can tell them to go piss up a rope and you want your old schedule back, or you'll be speaking with the labor board.

Miss you fukcer.

There not a day that goes by that I don't Thank my lucky stars for being self Employed and consider my self fortunate , after 15 years as a career Auto tech and service manager , I just made up my mind (86') to hand in a resignation at the dealer I worked for (he thiought it was a wage "grind" till I left ) My friends and family (except Rhonda) thought I was nuts, I spent 6 years driving 90K a year working 6.5 days a week 12 hrs a day to build my first business and have been working on this one the rest Its a bitch sometimes and "very wearing" but at least I dont have some uncaring POS boss or stupidvisor on my a$$ , If it means anything Brad "been there and done that" ,pay cuts, lost benifits, and some mean spirited prick taking out there frustration on you or treating you like a "billet" not a person . Not suggesting you quit or walkout  just smile and nod & "choose your time and place to fight"  Then resign with your head high and your dignity resume intact Tom

So I've mentioned that I was planning on leaving the company that I work for but no one has bitten.
I've been drop big obvious hints at work to the foreman of the company we are a sub for.
This is a huge corporation and they love guys that do good work and they ALWAYS have tons of work lined up.
Finally it gets around to the superintenant that I've been asking for work .
He says to me , "Are serious about lookin for work?"
Me: "yes , I'm just tired of the new foremans B.S.
Coming onto a job that I've ran for almost 2 years and then he step on my d!ck by telling me I'm slow and unfocused and blah blah.
I'm over it, not to mention he doesnt have any answers for anyone and verifies everything with me."
Super: "I know he's a big pain in our ass and the last two departure gates that he was in charge of are a disaster, whatever your boss thinks he saved in time using this guy, he's gonna cough up just on Quality Control punch list."
Anyways, They offered me a job and they seemed very excited to get me on board.
I filled the app, piss tested so life will be better.
At the begining of the week, my former, unassuming boss tried to lay into me because since I had been there the longest all the fuk ups were my fault and we need to be a little more diligent about checking our work, and if we dont he was going to have to start letting people go and he doesnt really want to do that cuz he's been through 3 recessions and this was the worst and blah blah blah.

That last load of sh!t he said made my telling him that this was going to be last week working with them and that I had already found another job and that I was going to start monday taste sweeter than the wine that Jesus himself drank at the last fukin supper .
I've always had a good honest relationship with the head boss and he wished me well and said I was more than welcome to come back if I chose to.

Through all the good and the bad I'm gonna miss all the B.S. that comapany put me through the last 8 years.
It's made me feel like I can push through anything when being left completly abandoned .
Just keep on keepin on till the next one drops, then part ways.
Your karma will thank you
good Luck Brad .

Brad,
Hang in ther Pard, it'll get better. May or may not be at this workplace but it's funny how life has a way of shaking out as long as you stay after it.
Many have been down this road and if you just keep after it, you'll come out the other side.  Even though I've been at the same company for 30 years, I've seen many changes in my job and company. I've seen layoffs and outsourcing and kept at it. In the end, no matter how bleak it got or how frustrating it got, in the end it it worked out for the better.  Just hang in there and good luck

I know all how you guys feel about the pay cuts, My wife took a 10% cut in October 2008! She was pissed and wanted to quit right there, I told her to just grin and bear it and start looking for work else where (If the company she works for doesnt value her work, someone else will). Word got around in her industry and she was flown to Sacremento to interview for an "unposted" position.

On Monday she starts work for the new company with a $15,500 raise in pay and a bonus structure.

Hang in there everyone.....it cant possibly get any worse than it is!
