Anyone else ever had a bad customer service experience with them ? I was in the area and stopped by to ask for a quick quote to cut my intake in and set it after I got it machined for a shoe and ride plate.i don't know the guys name that I spoke to but was blonde haired guy.now I don't know if it was because it was hot and the guy was frustrated with what he was working on, but as I asked him he spoke to me like I was was stupid for wanting to do a set back ..also as I'm standing there he practically ignored me and keep drilling on the boat .if he was busy and frustrated with what he was doing just tell me and I would come back .I know he or others from gs marine will read this or word will back to them and what  would have been a potential customer will now search elsewhere or figure out how to do it myself.the quote was $500-700 to cut the intake and set it.

I have had nothing but positive dealings with GS and have been sending them customers for decades now.

My guess was that they were slammed, short handed and it was hot as hell. Anytime you need information like this, try to hit them up first thing in the morning. I hated it when I was balls deep in a project and sweating bullets and having to stop and try and answer very technical questions or provide pricing off the cuff. More than likely was trying to fulfill a customers promise to get hie boat to him.

I would not fault them automatically just for one raw and unfortunate experience. Probably hit them on a bad day.

Another way to do this is to get some good pictures and send them an email with specific questions on what you want to do. They have some pretty knowledgeable folks there and they will point you in the right direction.

Just my humble opinion.

I didn't have a bad experience but it wasn't great. The ladies in the office were nice and wanted to hell me. I spent an hour waiting and going back and forth with them to finally get what I needed. End result is I won't go out of my way again to go there.

Not trying to be a rah rah for GS or nothing here, but I felt like it needed to be said.

I owned and operated my own boat shop in the early-mid 90's.

Not a huge budget, best in the land shop, but it was mine and I did my best to supply the best service for the consumers dollar.

All that BS out of the way, the mom and pop shops need your business in the worst possible way. I totally understand where you are coming from and in my opinion you have every justification to be upset.

These shops don't have twenty people walking around picking their butt just looking to make sure you are happy and get what you need at the snap of a finger. They are in the middle of the busiest season trying to make their year...  Once October comes around, they will be picking up the phone receiver to see if it even works (I've done it). That being said, it sucks what happened to you and I am sure Greg would want to make it right with you. Send him an email, take pictures of your wants, explain what your thinking. He may not get back to you tomorrow, but he will get back to you. The job you want done is a winter job, not a summer job. The price will be lower in December, it is likely the turn around time will be shorter too.

I just needed to get that off my chest because I have been on the other side of it and know full well what was going on.

GS Marine just rebuilt my pump. They did a killer job and Greg was great to deal with. He also got the pump back to me EARLY!

So, GT... If I dropped Off A $1500 Stainless impeller (used, not thrashed), And wanted it detailed, Would you Call Me back? Within two (2) weeks?
Jack (MPD) had it done (YES, DONE) in three days. I know 300 bux ain't much, But I wanted a detailed impeller, WTF. I guess I'm a (demanding) broke azz jetboater.

Yes I would. I guess Greg needs some help? I guess what I was trying to say earlier is that for every good success story there are thirty bad experiences.

I have never had any bad feedback form people I have sent to GS, but then again, I also don't think I have ever sent someone in the summer, just project in the fall and winter.

Maybe if I get a minute tomorrow I will send him an email and get the skinny...

As Daniel points out, if you live in So Cal (and the OP does) then you have lots of other choices to have a pump set.  GS will do it right, but if you look you will find cheaper and less busy options I'm sure of it.
