 Spent the day cleaning chips and swarf outta the machine shop...got rid of a bunch of junk I've been moving around the shop for 5 years....as I rolled the trash bin out to the street after pouring myself an "end of weekend" drink...I notice a puddle under the truck.  Fawk.  Intake gaskets....5.7L R motor.   Started the job at 6pm, finished at 9.  My fatass still beat book time....with only a led light strapped to my head and no air tools (neighbors get pissed when I run 'em after dark).  Kinda sore from climbing in and outta the truck all night.  Why, after 40 years of building a SBC, can GM not figure out how to make intake gaskets not leak?

no way old was just made better!  it had pride in it!  no one has pride in there work anymore!

GM was aware of the intake manifold problems of those years. So the next newer generation of SBC was equipped with a manifold that can't leak. Case in point.

Yeah, at least GM didn't decide to bury the back half of the engine underneath a cracked dashboard...that would have made the job a real bitch. 

My neighbor has a dodge...2003, I just did the rear end....for the second time (the dealer job lasted 50k miles...due to a less than clean pinion race removal job, and failure to knock down
the chisel mark that stood proud of the bore), head gaskets and a valve a job months back....with less than 150k on it. 

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, if it weren't for mopars my tools would rust. 

I wish I could afford a tundra
