No BS pop rivets?! Yer kidding right?! Those cars were put together with pop rivets and 99% of people out there like your cousin don't use pop rivets due to the amount of work involved...I'm sure yer cousin Victor is alot more qualified and does better work then Jimmy Shine even though his pop riveted truck is a freakin' icon...BS pop rivets....Micky fucked....Did he really say that? Bbbuuuwwwwaaaahhhh!! I think Jimmy's cars would turn out alot better if he would learn how to act..... Oh yea...On my rod the whole bed is held together with crappy rivets...Woulda been MUCH easier ta' screw it all together... ;)  Wish I could see the pics...Have ta' wait til I get home....
I'm not talkin about the way rivets were put in originally . I'm talkin about the home depot way . Mr Shine can obviously put a great car together and his skills in that department are not in question. There are just certain things that people do because they saw some POS on TV and they think they can build that . Take some pride in your work and most importantly , make sure it's safe . Some people micky fuk some shit together and then run around sayin "look at my rat rod , look at my rat rod , look at my rat rod , rat rod , rat rod , rat rod ! "
WHAT THE FUK IS A RAT ROD!
My biggest fear is that all things sacred will be popularized and given some stupid fukin name so some lame can put it on TV , rape it in front of millions of viewers all the while people who live and breath this shit from it's conception (like Mr. shine) are just looked at as another glorified welder  :-[

A rat rod is a vehicle put together with function over form as a priority. A black primered model A coupe with a fully polished engine and 4 12" woofers begind the seat is not a rat rod. A black primered model A coupe with a stock 392 Hemi with pretty valve covers, holes in the floor and elsewhere, no stereo, maybe a gauge or two in the dash, is a rat rod. A rat rod has a pre-1948 body.

I don't have a problem with the term rat rod, it's the term hot rod thrown around so loosely that I have a problem with. A Honda Civic that does 9 second 1/4 mile passes is not a hot rod. A 2006 Ford F-250 diesel with twin turbo's is not a hot rod. A 1969 Chevrolet Camaro is not a hot rod.

Tradition gets smeered as the tradition gets further into history.

I always figured a "rat rod" was a car that you tried to modify to your image as best as you could, but did not have the funds for all the parts, so you used temporary paints/ parts/ methods of fixing up the car in your image. It was just cause you couldn't afford to do the car the way you wanted, so primers and fabbed headers are what went on the car. But I could be wrong ???

IMO a RatRod is a car that has no floor boards, brakes that barely work and is for the  most part an unsafe POS...You'd be shocked at some of the "Ratrods" guys are driving or atleast parking in show...Like VLV I saw a car with no front brakes or floorboards...If ya hit roadkill it'd be in yer lap...Jimmy Shines truck is just a badass Hotrod IMO...Which means alot... ::)  ;D

I could go on and on about what I've seen from guys who for the most part were there building cars when the Hot Rod crazy first ticked (Like the guys who built the 56 chevy for Jesse James ) It was only on TV of course and probably dont mean shit so maybe I'll just build me a "Hot Rod" according to the research I do and have to deal with people calling it something my heart will never take . Oh well ! Whaaaa Whaaaa Whaaaa ! I done cryin now . :'(  ;D

Here is a couple of shots from my cousins garage. "Upland Hot Rod Co." My cousin Victor and a top notch fabricator. Do just about everything imaginable . Last thing I saw was a whole trunk replaced with the wheel wells extended to accomodate the Z-ed frame and a new trunk floor with great lookin beads , Drilled and tapped all together with stainless fastners . No B S  pop rivets or self tapping screws holding a bunch of micky fuked shit together .

This is his car that he can never seem to decide what eventually wants to do with .

This is the last car I saw there (its been months since I've been back) that a customer left just as a chassis , cab , and a motor on a stand . He's had some other very coo shit through there . I'm sure he has tons of pics too. Not bad for a union paver  ;D

-beerjet-
Finally got ta' se the pics...Sweet lookin' model A's! ;D Nice zoomies and what about 3" chop? Your cousin chop it to? Nice biased whites...Can't wait ta' seem em done...Post some pics if ys can...And if he can't figure out what ta' do with 'em let me know.... ;D

No problem with the term. I DO have a problem with the people that Warlock mentioned!!!!
In the old days the cars were put on the road as soon as possible because it was thier only means of tranportation. They were CONSANTLY upgrading them as time and $ alowed. Some of the POS that I've seen at 10 CHRR & 9 March Meets, 2 VLV look the same as when I first saw them. They think it's cool!!!
They're missing the point... they were stripped down to make them faster. I have seen very few head down the bussiness end of a drag strip or Bonniville. Kinda like a chopper....nothing that isn't needed.
Unlike the cross-dressing cringing milk sobbs at OCC!!!! They'd be disoriented in a real bike biulding shop!!! The SOB's couldn't even find TDC when a bike did not start!!!
Whew!!! I'll get off my soap box out here in Colorado.

And whom might that be? I think YOU have missed the whole point....Being the owner of a few "finished" cars I can tell you that its no fun to be at a show with every moron in the planet touching your car, road rash which just happens when you drive them...Being worried about parking lot dents....Which car do you think I like to take out the most? You guessed it...The primered rod...Not only because I like the looks but because if some kid runs their hands down the paint or it gets a ding not that big of a deal just touch it up with primer....Once you've had one you'll understand....And as far as the "business end" you've gotta be kidding...Now everyone must go down a dragstrip or to the saltflats? Thats whats wrong right there....The whole well if you have a Rod and your not going to Bonniville or the dragstrip to tear it up...Yea...Alot of them are made of mainly wood....Then your not the real deal....Piss on anyone that has a problem with what anyone does or doesn't do with their rides.... :-* ;D

Tradition gets smeered as the tradition gets further into history.

When the story tellers of yester-year told the story of Santa Claus do you think they had Marketing guru's sitting behind massive desks in corner offices on their minds, of course not. Same with anything, the further into history a tradition gets the more flocked up it gets. AA/Pauls reccolection  ??? is right on, they drove them that way because they had to. They didn't drive them without floors because they thought it was cool, it's because they were late for work and couldn't take the chance of loosing their 15 cent an hour job just because their car didn't have a floor, too much risk/jobs were too hard to find. For the record, I wasn't there then, but my dad was and I know that's why old hot rodders did things they way they did them. Notice I said old hot rodder's, not old rat rodder's. The rat rodder's out there that drive their sh!t without floorboards, decent brakes, etc... are flockin idiots, completely stupid ignorant flocks that put every single person near them on the road in danger so they can be "cool". What a flockin joke. Like I want my kid to die in a car crash so the rat rodder could at least look cool while they kill my kid.

Warlock's ride is a SIK hot rod.  ;D

Someday, I'll get off the jet boat thing and back into the hot rod thing... I promise...  ;)

Warlock I've had both. Primer IS finer!!! I do not want a perfect car or bike. I did not mean to offend ya!! :-\ That wasn't what was intended. We all try to do the best that we can with what we have.
Some of the people have the cars/choppers, the look, But are not well informed about the rich history and and determination to to the best they could.
From yer pics of the rod, boat, and other posts...You are always tweeking and improving your projects!!! ;D ( and turnig out some cool stuff) Running down the salt or track is NOT a nessety...but part of the reasons/ history  of why the cars/bikes looked that way.  To not put flor boards in for years is lazy! To drive it without to get to a show or get together is rightous!!! ;D

Thanks Forker! Hard ta' tell it used ta' be a Fordor hah? I'm with ya' Paul...The history is awsome...Ya' think about it and these guys were nuts flyin' in cars with no roll cages and shit! The Gasser wars!  >:D Dig it!  ;D As far as the no floorboards part of it I really don't think its changed that much....The price to build 'em has gone through the roof! You still got budget builders like ya did back in the day that try to slap something together as cheap as possible and they are not mechanically inclined enough to do it right and it turns out like an unsafe POS...As far as floorboards go use a fuk'n street sign or something!!  Last year I saw one with only back brakes, MECHANICAL brakes at that! :o Thats unexeptable behavior but shitty builders unfortunately are also a part of the rodding (or any motor sports) that unfortunately aren't going to go away..... ::)
