Hating life right now
« on: August 27, 2013, 03:33:50 PM »
I threw my lower back out yesterday morning just getting up to take a leak. So now I'm bed ridden and wasted on pain killers and muscle relaxers. Worst part is that we're supposed to start 11 days of vacation Friday. Have to figure a way to pop my back into place so our vacation isn't F'd up. I really wanted to hit the river at least once this weekend! I would go to a chiropractor but last time I went, he partially ruptured one of my disks. I'm too scared to try again. Sorry for the rant, needed to vent/whine a little. Time for another dose. "Focker out!"

I get random/periodic back pain and the best thing I've done to help remedy it was use a inversion board. Hang like a bat a few times throughout the day and let the muscles, spine and discs stretch out.

X2 on the inversion table. I use mine every week or so and it helps. A few mins flat to relax the muscles and a few mins at a 45 angle then a couple seconds fully inverted. Just long enough to do some stretches and twists then back flat for 10 min then off i go. And after an hour or so I feel great, you can get a decent one for around a hundred but if your tall gonna have to spend some more to buy a bigger one. The first one i bought I'd drag my head on the ground and I'm 6'2.

A large amount of lower back problems come from a weak core and abdominal area. After healing the inversion table will help with spinal compression and some minimal ab exercises will help strengthen and stabilize.

Consider a chiropractor or acupuncture.
As for right now use an ice pack for 20 mins at a time, muscle relaxers and rest.
MAYBE try to stretch by laying on your back or side and pulling one knee up towards your chest. Go slow and don't push it too much.

After you're better, inversion table and yoga are great ideas. Stretching makes a big difference for me.

Back pain sucks! Good luck.

im in the same boat. been having some serious back pain over the last two years.

so i finally went to get an MRI done. apparently my L5 and S1 are jacked. there is no fluid left in them and i have an 8mm hurniation on the L5. So i went and saw 5 specialists before decididing if i wanted to do surgery. All of them said i was a good candidate for surgury but whats done is done. So now i am going to try to do pain management until it gets too bad that surgury is the last option.

Right now i just started a 2 month physical therapy deal. it kind of sucks going in there but my back is feeling a little better. What we are trying to do is strengthin my core muscles to help support my lower back. this should cut down on the pain and prevent future damage.

anyway hope some of that helps.

I'm sitting outside of the chiropractor office waiting for my appointment. I have an inversion table. Works to relieve pressure. I have the same problem with my two lowest disks. I am trying to avoid surgery as long as possible. Eventually I will have to bite the bullet and get it done.

it's too many hours leaning over the gunwale wrenching ...... I too have lower back issues.....got bad around Memorial Day when I was in New Orleans......I luckily found a good doc who gave me some zanaflex and tramdol to help me finish my vacation

since then I have been to 2 different Chiropractors..... and one Physical Therapist.

yoga seems to be working for me.... that and losing some weight ...

My wife calls tramadol "dammitall" lol. Second visit to chiropractor today.  Feeling a little bit better. Back still crooked as a politician. But more like a local one instead of say Feinstein lol

Glad to hear it's a little better.
Did the chiropractor tell you to do to help it along in between visits? Just curious.
