How would you handle this situation

Hi all,

Im sitting at work this morning, and my cell goes off. its my GF and she sends me alink to a craigslist add. So i check it out, yeah its my CURRENT position at my work.

Little bit of background, I started the "customer service" department at my current employeer. It has been running for about 2 years and did not exist prior to my employment. I have created all of the policies and procedures. And the department is running smoothly, very smoothly. Now i make decent money but lately (actually since i bought my truck) i have been dealing with complete BS. Anything from busses running me over to being lied to, to being told my vacation (that ive had booked for 6 months) is now canceled with no reason.

About two weeks ago, i was written up under complete BS that didn't even have to do with my department. They are "building a case". Now I see this?

I am beyond livid and not quite sure how to handle the situation. Half of me says to go into my supervisors office and demand an explanation, the other half says i should walk the fuck out, and finally a little part says i should pretend that i dont know start looking else where then just up and quit when i find something.

for starters, dont sit around and WAIT for something to happen. if you have a feeling that you're going to be let go, then start looking elsewhere.

to be honest, i've been looking and have thrown a few apps out there. But now im going to get serious about it

i personally wouldnt confront your supervisor UNTIL you have something else lined up. if they know that you know about them replacing you, they might just let you go on the spot. i personally wouldnt want a disgruntled employee making trouble knowing they're on their way out... i figure you have at least 30 days. they would have to interview someone, and then wait for them to give notice, etc assuming they have an already existing job. once you have something secured with an offer letter, go talk to em. you'll have an ace up your sleeve and IF they arent replacing you, you have even more leverage to ask for a raise and if they dont agree you can give notice.

What ever they do... don't sign anything or verbally agree to anything. If they ask you to agree with something you did or didn't do, tell them to put it in writing and you will look into it at your convenience. If they are looking to get rid of you, they already are building a case to fire you to keep from the liability. Write up your experience at this job and the people you deal with and how your treated then bring that to them and have them sign it....

Hey Steve,

That's a bummer man, it sucks when there's instability with your job. This might not help at all but I'll tell you a little story about a different type of situation that I experienced, though equally uncomfortable.

This happened about 5 years ago now, my dad ran the electrical division for a general contractor that my brother and I also worked for. My dad and the owner started butting heads and my dad ended up getting fired. Obviously I'm going to be loyal to my dad but he gave me the good advice not to worry about him and to keep my job because I was about to get married and I needed to support my new wife. The owner of the company called my brother and I into a meeting at the end of the day that my dad had been fired. I wasn't sure how to handle it but I decided to approached the meeting with an open mind and with zero attitude whatsoever. We had already heard my dads side of the story and the owner gave us his side (both had valid issues with the other). He told us he'd like us to stay on but would understand if it was uncomfortable. Thankfully my dad had given us the freedom to make our own decisions and we both stayed on (though my brother moved to Montana a couple weeks later). The owner was impressed with my maturity in the situation and promoted me to my dads old position. Here's where this proved to be a key decision in my life. A couple years later, the owner decided to shut down his company leaving a vacuum to be filled. I activated my license and started my company. All the clients and contractors that we worked for knew the situation and how I had handled it and I'm very grateful that they embraced me when I started my company. I'm very fortunate that it played out like it did but since that situation I've always done my best not to burn bridges. I typically avoid working with clients and contractors who I feel conduct themselves in an unethical manner though I try to avoid blowups and I like to maintain good relationships with all my contacts.

They may or may not have a valid reason for their actions but if you do end up leaving then at least a good reference will make it worth handling yourself with composure and maturity, you never know what it may lead to.

Hard workers with integrity are in short supply in this day in age and there will always be someone else to snatch you up, you just have to let them find you. Good luck with the whole situation.

I would apply for the position under your middle name. Make it the best resume you have ever written.

When they call you to interview, show up and act like nothings up....

I completely agree with this, however I would definitely have another job lined up so that way when his boss is expecting a potential new hire to come in, it is him who comes in and tells him to pound sand. I understand you don't want to burn a bridge and all, but if they're willing to completely screw you then what bridge is there to save? Idk.

I know this is a long shot by the way they've been treating you, but what if they're giving u a promotion? And hiring your replacement. Just s thought even though there's a lot of negative. Best of luck! I'll listen for any jobs in my area!

I agree been there. And all said and done was ask to come back . Sorry can't pay me enough and better job now. I did a lot to change things for the better. I found out later after I moved on that what the company thought was going to do better turn out not so good. Not saying that will happen but working with big company's your just a number
