I got two 700-R4 that are both gone. One in my K1500 4x4 Blazer and one in my C1500 pick up, and just lost the reverse in my 1958 Thunderbird cruise-o-matic. I really need to learn the tricks to rebuild a transmission myself. I bought the step by step video on Ebay for the 700R4, it looks real good instructional, I bought a TCI rebuild kit for the K1500 4x4. I'm gonna try it. I already collected all the specialty tools that I will need. I just need a good honest contact that will share some advise if I get stuck.
For the pick up I broke down and removed it yesterday and dropped it off at a transmission shop. The thing that bothers me is you never know what they change and don't change. This is the 2nd trans in the blazer, so I think they just fix what is broken at the time and charge you a ton of money. Why are transmission shops so secretive?
Anyone know of a class or school you can go to to learn the secrets? Not that I have the time, but I might have to make the time if I want to keep so many cars and trucks. I'm sick!!!!!!!!!!!
It's a addiction!

ok, i do know a thing or two about auto trannys. but i would never touch one there are too many areas to mess up in!!!! like if you put the spacer in backwards
. a good tranny guy or gal can put a clean trans back together in a half hour !!! its a joke. and they charge an arm and leg for them, but i still wont touch one.some shops will do an exchange if you want to go that route. when i went to school had to have a class on them. its not only the speciality tools its the table they use. to be honest i dont care how good of a mechanic you are, if you have not been personally shown how to do one dont do it. parts just arnt that cheep anymore for them. just my opinion. good luck

I worked at a tranny shop when the 700s came out and they had updates on them daily. I have never built one but I did a t-350 in 55 minutes in school and the t-400 in 1 and 20. They should have all the bugs worked out and you shouldnt have any problems. I always had someone to do them, a guy at Art Carr when I was in SoCal and another builder in Orygone when I was up there. I'm in the middle of a Doug Nash overdrive unit right now and it's CAKE!!!
