« on: April 23, 2019, 01:33:41 PM »
Hey guys I’ve taken my boat to the shop 4 times and the guy has failed to get the intake manifold gasket set correctly. Still leaking oil still leaking water. Are there any shops close to Bakersfield....if I get a weekend of from work I may do it myself I just ordered a new manifold gaskets

Jet Boat Performance in Atascadero. I don’t think that is too far from Bakersfield.

Also, I’ve read that some motor builders use the black silicone on the front and back to seal the manifold instead of the flimsy rubber gaskets that come in the set. This is how my motor builder did it as well.

Was the problem the manifold itself or are you just upgrading?

I had a edelbrock performer and ever since I had the shop put the new heads on it he never ordered the correct gasket set. I trusted him and told him which one to get for it and not use the the end gaskets just rtv. Anyways he got it done for the season kick off so I tow the boat all the way from Oildale ca to Parker with my Ford Focus st launch it and it was leaking oil every where. So I pulled it out did a quick fix with rtv so the whole family vacation wasn’t ruined and at least we enjoyed Saturday. I call the back up he said bring it back and I did. About 5 days pass I pick it up again and I told him I’m gonna go right down the road and put it in the water and test it. Launch it with my father in law and before we get out of the 5mph zone oil and water everywhere. Pull it out take it back cause I want it fixed right cause I paid to have work done so it should be done correctly. He said ok I will order the right gaskets and fix it. I pick it up the Saturday before Easter take it out Easter Sunday and it held up for about 20 mins and it pushed the cork end gaskets again. Sorry for rambling........but I got tired of it so I ordered the correct marine extreme seal gaskets and I’m jut so tired of the other manifold leaking I upgraded to the rpm air gap edelbrock with a velocity stack on the carb. I did it mysel and just got done after waiting for ups all day which they didn’t even drop it off I had to pick it up at there facility......so to answer the question I upgraded and I will test it out this weekend after the rtv drys good and I hope no more oil or water leak.....either way it goes I will be ready for the event in august one way or another
