Lake Hodges?
« on: May 23, 2007, 10:00:48 AM »
Does anyone know if they allow jet boats on Lake Hodges?  And  if so, what the "speed limit" is?  I am looking for a place that is open M-W closer than Elsinore.

I think the number is 619-465-fish and you can listen to a recording it will give you the schedule of all the lakes in S.D. County and it will tell you what lakes you can fish in, if there's skiing/tubing, etc...

I haven't been to Hodges, but thought it might be a welcomed change.  No water contact though :(

I just don't get it. Seriously. Up in central California where I grew up you could do anything  you wanted to in the water whenever you wanted to. That's IN California. They use the water for reserves up there too. Same as the river, it's reserve water as well. Everywhere but in So Cal you can ski whenever you want to. The water is all the freakin' same. So Cal is using everyone else's water (majority), what do southern Californian's really think that there aren't people swimming in the water they're getting from elsewhere? What tree hugger mo fo is responsible for this completely stupid sh!t?

I have been taking my Rogers out there for 3 weeks straight. There are starting to be more and more people using hodges for recreational boating. (On Saturday the 30th, there were about 7 jet boats out there) You cannot make water contact, but nor would you want to. Its only $5 to launch and no per person day use fees. I had my Rogers opened up and no one says anything. There is only one patrol boat that goes around every once in a while. Great place to just put around and hang out with your friends ON the boat.

They haven't said one thing to me about launching, speeding , boat beverages, etc. And no, I launch at the main ramp where all the boats go.  The ramp where the main dock is, is out of service. But you stop there to get your launch permit, then you just go past it through the trees and around the bend. It is open from sunup to sundown. The best time to go is the afternoon, after all the fishing boats have left. around 1230-1. Then you have the lake to yourself and only about 10 other boats. just DONT make body contact with the water. its not very clean. haha

Are there places to beach your boat at Hodges or do you have to just float around day?

There is one place. you can beach about three boats. Its a little rocky there sometimes, but nonetheless, you can beach and hang out on the beach, without touching the water. After you launch, you would go east. Then through a no wake zone, then continue heading east towards the 15 freeway. Then on the right hand side when you see the freeway, there is about 30-40 ft of sandy beach area. But only about 20ft of non rock, non tuli's (sp?). I can send a pic tomorrow from my office computer. Other than that place, we normally go out to the dam on the west side and tie up a few boats and just float and have some boat sodas.
