Am I understanding that yalls lakes close at night? What happens if you are too drunk to drive out. You cant just anchor off and sleep there? We will be in our cove chilling from Friday around noon till Monday about dark!
-
az lakes are open all night ;D
-
Ok thats more like it! I was reading somewhere that someone was talking about closing at 6 or something.
-
yes, some of the local lakes here in socal are only open from dawn to dusk
-
Saftey issue or what? No houses on the lake? I cant imagine how they woudl keep property owners off?
-
Most of them are part of the CA state water project... Which means the lakes supply our drinking water. Typically I haven't seen too many houses on the shore's of most of these lakes. One exception I can think of is Shaver Lake, that lake is awesome if you're planning on camping in the Edison Camp ground, it's freaking beautiful up there.
-
Looking at coming out to visit my brother. Trying to get some insight about the lakes as I might pull my boat out.
-
Most of what we have are reserviors and are not actually lakes.
-
What we have here are flood control dams that people have built homes on. That is probably why they differ so much on rules etc. I am learning stuff from you guys. I really do wanna go out there and see what its all about.

My buddy just moved to Texas, I don't know what the lake is called but he lives in Wimberley (I think that's how its spelled) within an hour's drive of Austin.
Im skiing behind his boat and of course the water is much calmer along shore so I tell him to get closer to shore.
I keep seeing these funky signs with a red no smoking sign on them barely on shore...
As I'm cutting back and forth I start wondering what the hell these signs say so I pay more and more attention. Of course I fall.
Since I don't have the best of eyesight I swim a bit closer to shore to read these signs.
The signs says: DANGER STAY AWAY FROM SHORE! WATER MOCASSIN HABITAT
You bet I swam my happy ass back to the boat fast as a hershey squirt.
So if you ask me, I'll live with the lakes closing at dusk, I don't wanna sleep with any goddamn snakes. Let alone ones that like the water!
-
around wimberly is pretty much swamp land. River bottoms and of course snakes. We boat on lake travis. Rocky shore with cliffs etc. Dont see many snakes of any sort.

Hmmm so i am seeing some competition between California lake sand Arizona lakes. I like any lake that is close to my driveway. But I do wanna go boating when I am out there. My brother is in Mission Viejo so what cool lake is close?

None, nada, zip! I live in Lake Forest which is conected if you will to Mission Viejo. The last couple of trips have been to Lake Castaic. About 95 miles north of here. A nice lake but can get choppy in the afternoon. Lake Elsinore is the other lake close to here. Personally, I hate it. Sorry Elsinore guys. Last time we were there my daughter go bit by a bug and had Viral Meningitus 3 days later. Let everyone know when you are coming out and I am sure Brad will throw a welcome to town party at his house. Thanks Brad ;)

You guys ever been to Piru? Piru is only 15-20 minutes up the 126. So just a short time more than Castaic. My buddy has a cabin up there that we hunt out of.
Piru is pretty cool, they have a campground and a marina where you can leave your boat overnight for like $10-15. Not sure how much beach frontage they have... but it's still a nice lake, water is clean!!!
If you guys want to plan a trip to a place like Lake Shaver for a few days I am more than willing to go. It really is bitchin and not too crowded ...
To give you an idea what Shaver is like.

Shaver is about 214 miles from my house. So a good 4 hour drive. My parents are looking at buying a house there to retire. Last night they told me they're expecting me to leave the new boat up there if they get the place... I haven't laughed so hard in a while.

I wish we could've seen your face when you read that sign :o
I grew up, and skiied, in Alabama; we were sure not to crash/burn by shore for that very reason; also had to watch the tree overhangs when you were cruising; the snakes have been known to drop from a branch right in the boat.

There is a lake right in Mission Viejo: LAKE MISSION VIEJO (http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?formtype=address&addtohistory=&address=%5b27660%2d27698%5d%20Tres%20Vis&city=Mission%20Viejo&state=CA&zipcode=92692&country=US&location=jw4JiygnOGNTNOt%2b%2brxlrT%2fbBmEKJRibj0DmccH1OEtS0ngjYno7t3hfvBnexnrhnTnpuozyMrG%2f1flp8h6uqxTCte6BKW4vqqZ%2fUs8J7gWZHimM5y08ULOhfNBd4N4sUdRT4%2bH2fB1kAXMf%2foor7tV0G19qmSN1&ambiguity=1)
However, you can only use electric motors ;D
Going south of OC is El Capitan and San Vicente.
-
I'm hearing good things about El Capitan?

I think it's comparable to Castaic and considering how close you are to Castaic ...
unless we have a group meeting at ElCap, then drive down.
I haven't skiied on Castaic yet; both times was too much chop (you're right about that Ski Club area looking very inviting); I did ski on ElCap when we were there; it was choppy too but since it had been so long since I skiied, I just wanted to go (1 loop wore me out).
-
At least you can stay up that long! I don't know how sketchy or not I'll be, been too sick to jump on a ski so far... Otherwise it's been since I was either 13-14 since I was on a ski. I'm looking forward to it.

Took me a few times to get on the ski (notice I didn't say, 'get up' :o ); my wife put me to shame because it's been longer for her and she was up on 3rd try; once I was up there's no problem (except getting tired); I was about 10-15 off, 60'-65' ft back, which was OK before because I didn't spend much time behind the boat; that was a little close in this case because I needed a few rests and there's a lot of turbulance that close behind a jet.
