Hello, I'm new to Jet boating and came across a really nice Jet Boat I want to consider purchasing. It's 1989 22' Hocking Jet Boat. I'm told the mold was sold to Howard boats. I would be buying from the original owner. It has 230 hrs looks damn near brand new. Harden Marine 454. It's been stored inside its whole life. Does anyone know much about this boat and what a fair price would be? Trailer is like new as well tandem axle very nice. I will try and post some pics later. Thanks in advance for the feed back.

Welcome to the site. I have never heard the name of the boat your looking at, but Howard's are good boats with bitchen lines. 230hrs on a motor if well taken care of is still good. I'm sure that someone will chime in with some more useful information. And don't forget the pictures. On this site we LOVE pictures.

im a little slow at posting pics so here goes. Trying to figure out what its worth and if this would be a solid boat in Havazu and Mead, on calm days. Coming from a 36' Outlaw. Wanted something more fun that could pull the kids and easier to wipe down after a day of drinking ;D

Heres some more pics! The boat was bought new from the LA boat show in 1989. The original owner and I work together. He mentioned he had a jet boat he might sell and said if i wanted it I could have it before he lists it for sale.

Welcome, nice looking boat. It looking very similar to an eliminator to me... But yeah as said above I wouldn't go over 8. I've seen similar popular name brand boats like that selling in the 7-9 range.

start low. theres a ton of boats up for sale right now and people arent really spending money on stuff like boating where u just toss money into a pit. its a buyers market. when he starts to walk away just take out yer cash and he'll fold.

Nice looking boat. My first thought was also "Eliminator". The 22 Howards that I've seen (in pics - we don't have many jets/V-drives in my neck of the woods) have a more rounded foredeck. And I'm not sure that I've ever seen a picture of a Howard with bow seating. Could be my locality though.
If it's really as nice as the pictures seem to show, and the engine checks out mechanically (do a compression check as a minimum, and make sure you take it for a test drive), I might consider going even higher on the price. This is coming from a definitive tight-wad.
As long as the interior is in good shape , and the floor, stringers and transom are solid (no rot or sponginess) I think it might be hard to find a low-hour, garaged boat that's really nice, with one owner no less.

Big J I think we might settle at 8K. I will give him more if he wants it. Its is a real clean boat just would not want to over pay in case i want to move into something a little bigger. He paid 42K for it in 89.

Last two this takes me too long. I appreciate everyones comments, thank you for the feedback. I dont know what this thing should even have as far as accessories. Jet size, HP, options. Shoot the price is right im pulling the trigger!

Thanks for the feedback Matt. Im going to pick it up. Do you boat in the Ozarks? I sea trialed a boat up there a few years ago. That place is awesome! ended up buying my last boat from the Great Lakes and shipped it to Vegas. First time I spent that kind of money without seeing the boat in person. It was my first boat 36' outlaw, turned out better than expected. Its funny everyone in that scene is always trying to go bigger. Fun boat just useless for anyhting but crushing waves or floating. ;D I was lookin at a 27' Hallett and then this deal came up. a lot less boat but I think it will be a lot of fun. Kinda nastalgic.

not saying that boat isnt nice but I wouldnt buy the first boat you see...keep looking there are some great deals out there you get a lot of boat for that price

it does look like a splash of a howard... although boats during the 70-90's have splashes of pretty much everything if they were built in socal...

howards are nice boats and usually carry a hefty pricetag...

I don't know about 42 grand in 89.. my pops had a 21' Hallett built in 89 for 27k open bow w/ 454 and Bravo 1.
Not that my Ultra even compares with Hallett or Howard but it was built in '93 for 24k.
These are just reference points to keep in mind, don't let 10k keep you from something you truly want. I spent that on mine this past summer.. yeah, probably paid too much, but its what I wanted.

We used to boat/ski on the Mississippi and Missouri rivers rivers a lot until we had kids and decided we didn't want to put them in that crap. Bought/built jet boats then to avoid lower unit/prop damage from all of the semi-submerged junk floating down the rivers. Stayed with them ever since then. They have a great holeshot for skiing, and they're safe for the kiddies to paddle around. But don't over the rope (especially Kevlar)..... :banghead:
Been boating exclusively on Bull Shoals lake for the last 15 years or so. It's about 250 miles S/SW of STL. Kind of inconvenient to get to for most folks, which helps keep some of the crowd away. Don't really like Lake of the Ozarks - it's quite a zoo........
