New to jets.  Just bought a 1984 Baja 190 bowrider with a 454/Berkeley 12JF.  Have a condo on the river in Bullhead, river keeps getting lower and kept dinging props on my Bayliner so bought a jet and in the process of getting it going.  Anybody know anything about these older Baja jets?

I have a 79 19' Baja. We have the same hull. Different interior. I've got a 496 ci 565 hp Chevy with a berkley/aggressor pump. B aggressor impeller. Runs 71.3 on GPS. What are your questions?

Wow, that is fast.  I have only had it out once for a few hours but I only saw about 58 on the speedometer.  I have a gps but was boating in a river with a current.  I noticed a huge speed increase when I adjusted the trim.  Needless to say 58 is plenty fast enough for what I want to do.  I will mostly cruise and 30-40 and my son likes to water ski.  Have you towed skiers and tubes with your boat?  If so, how does it compare to an I/O boat?  I had a mechanic tell me that jets make horrible ski boats.  I am not sure what he is talking about.  I have seen lots of people ski behind jets.

Warning, if you chop the throttle on a vee hull jet it will probably turn sharply left or right. When slowing down, back off the throttle slowly. As for skiing, a strong skier on a slalom will pull the back end of the boat around some. You will learn how to compensate for that pull as you become more familiar with your boat. I've had mine for 32 enjoyable years. Good luck with yours.
