That's not the case here. Had that been the case, it would have placed your impeller shaft in a tremendous find which would have locked it from the get go. Then, you would have heard the dying bearings complaining.
Granted, anything can be destroyed by sledge mechanics with a 3/4" impact. Dominator suction housings are easily twice as thick as an early Berkeley housing. A Dominator housing can tolerate a lot of misalignment before it fails.
Your housing broke ahead of the wear ring, not at the inside corner between flange and diameter outside of the wear ring (the thinnest spot), indicating that the mechanical joint between the suction housing flange and the bowl was sound. Also, the cracks are primarily radial and not along the intake flange had it been an issue with sealing the intake gasket.
That kind of damage is the result of repeated sudden loading of an unloaded pump. This is usually caused by the shape of the transition between the hull and intake or it is the result of driver technique.
